Abstract
As the year progresses into the 21st century humans are experiencing the wrath of mother
nature and her powers . The reason you may ask is because all the actions of pollution and
greenhouse gases are the main reasons behind global warming and climate change . When these
pollutants and gases get trapped in the atmosphere they absorb the sunlight and radiation that
bounces off the earth causing the earth to gradually increase in temperature over time .These
effects can be felt all over the globe in all types of ways . Whether it's from more common and
degrading life on earth as temperatures continue to rise .Scientists estimate that unless we curb
global warming emissions , the average temperature in the united states will increase by 10
degrees by the next century.Global warming occurs when C02 and other air pollutants collect in
the atmosphere and absorb sunlight which then becomes trapped in the atmosphere causing the
planet to get hotter .Although some may say that global warming is not real and has no Effect
on humans , Global warming is real and is already affecting the earth because of the effect of
ocean waters rising causing flooding, forest fires are more common from rising temperatures and
tropical storms are more likely to double in categories which will then create even more
dangerous storms.
The sea levels continue to rise primarily because of global warming . With the increase in
temperatures the oceans are constantly continuing to warm , thus causing the sea waters to
expand because the land ice is melting . While the exact impact of rising oceans is difficult to
determine , it is certain that the effects will be some degree of flooding and a loss of land due
to the coastal erosion that will take place . The nuisance flooding that will take place will be
both disruptive and expensive as it is estimated to be from 300 to 900% more frequent within the
coastal communities than it was just 50 years ago according to the NOS( National ocean service
). Although it may not affect people that are not close to water , over 30% of the population lives
in coastline counties and the world's 10 largest cities are near a coast .That number of coastline
population increases to 40% alone in the United States . Also This is where most countries make
their income from these bay areas . Whether it's from transportation , trade and tourism, these
Whether it's from gender reveals to even just a lightning strike wildfires can start in an
instant . These sometimes uncontrollable fires pose a huge threat to the surrounding areas
burning everything in sight . In 2019 wildfires caused an estimated $4.5 billion in damages in
California and Alaska alone . Although wildfires have always occurred the main difference is
now the world is slowly heating up more than ever due to global warming/ climate change.
Although global warming doesn't cause the fires to start . Global warming leads to hotter and
drier temperatures which then evaporate more moisture from the ground , drying out the soil and
making the vegetation more flammable. These wildfires are beyond just a loss of property and
life , they can pose a huge health risk . The smoke plumes can travel for thousands of miles and
affect the air quality for the surrounding areas . These smoke plumes enter the lungs and could
cause respiratory and heart problems . As it wasnt enough to deal with the covid pandemic in
2020 residents of california and oregon were living in a fire most of the time .
With the likes of harvey , katrina and dorian these names seem quite friendly . Yet these names
represent the quite opposite as there are the names of past hurricanes that have wreaked havoc on
the world . As the world continues to warm it only adds the likelihoods of these tropical storms
and hurricanes to happen. Some physics even suggest that as the world continues to warm ,
tropical storms and hurricanes should only get stronger, because the water that gives these storms
fuel is only getting warmer . With the increase in temperatures the likelihood of a hurricane
developing from a category to a category 5 has increased by 8% in a decade. The last major
category 5 hurricane dorian caused more than $3.4 billion in damage in 2019. Hurricane Dorian
wreaked havoc on the Bahamas last year . Up to 30,000 residents of the Bahamas homes and
assets were affected from the storm . Up to 300 people are still reported missing since the
tragedy with another 57 deceased at the hands of the storm. Damage in the Bahamas was
5
catastrophic due to the prolonged and intense storm conditions, including heavy rainfall, high
In contrast to popular belief many people believe global warming isn't real . As of today the
world won't change overnight so that's why global warming is not noticeable in one day .
Although the world may be getting colder in some places of the world such as Texas as of 2021 .
These places are basically frozen over and have no correlation to climate change and are instead
in the path of a polar vortex that has swept through the nation. Also many believe that climate
change is good and that we will adapt to it like we always have . Although this may be true it
In conclusion , although many have different opinions on global warming /climate change
being real , it's actually real because of the facts that forest fires are more common and powerful
than ever before . There has been a huge increase in nuisance flooding and increase of
dangerous storms . Although most of these occurrences at this point are decades and decades of
global warming we can still at least decrease the severity of global warming . We can do this by
switching over to renewable energy as it has a lower carbon footprint compared to the fossil fuels
that we use .
