Engageme We will begin the lesson by discussing the student’s favorite baseball and softball players.
nt These can be players from any level including high school, college, or professional. I will also
ask them the question “how important do you think learning the proper throwing motion is to
earning a baseball/ softball scholarship or making it to the pro level?”

Engageme The students will be assessed based on their participation in the discussion. All students are
nt expected to participate.

Exploration The class consists of 20 students. They will be placed into 5 groups of 4 students for the day’s
activities. Each group will be given 4 Wiffle balls, one for each student, as well as a target and
a cone. The target is an archery target, so it has a bullseye and several outer rings that are
used to gauge accuracy. The cone will serve as the marker for where they are to throw from.
The students will each have a ball. They will take turns throwing the ball at the target. They will
cycle through quickly after each throw to ensure that every student gets plenty of opportunities
to work on their technique.

Exploration The students will be assessed based on participation. All students are expected to participate.

Explanatio The students will be seated in their usual areas on the gym floor. I will show them a quick

an emphasis on key terms. This segment will be quick as we must get the students up and
moving.

Elaboration The group assignment will be a PowerPoint about how to throw a baseball/ Wiffle ball. Each
student will create a slide, so the PowerPoint will consist of those four slides, and a cover slide
consisting of the group members names and title of the presentation. The students will work on
this using their school issued laptops during the last 20 minutes of class. There is very little
down time during our physical education classes, so the PowerPoints must be made quickly.

Written Narrative: Lesson 1

The lesson went mostly as planned. The students really enjoyed the lesson and

participation was 100%. The lesson started off with some great discussion about the student’s

favorite players and what it takes excel in the sport of baseball/ softball. The students paid full

attention to the YouTube video and demonstration. The activity portion of the lesson was great

aside from having to keep a few groups on task. Throwing the ball at the target became repetitive

over time for those students that were already somewhat proficient at throwing. Next time, I will

have more target options and objects to knock over.

The summative assessment portion of the lesson was a PowerPoint. Most groups finished

on time, but a few were still working when the class session ended. These students were allowed

to complete the next day’s assessment first so that they could finish the PowerPoint. Keeping the

PowerPoint simple and to the point proved to be the right call for the allotted time period. The

formative assessment was completed by monitoring the student’s participation and asking them

questions about the lesson during the different portions of the lesson.

Overall, the objectives were met. The students learned to throw the ball with proper form.

They also threw with proper form for a variety of distances. The PowerPoint completed the ISTE

objective of working as a team to complete a common goal.

Engagement We will begin the lesson by discussing the previous days lesson. I will ask them
what their favorite part of the lesson was. I will show them the gloves that we
will use for the lesson and ask them the question “how important do you think
learning the proper way to catch a baseball/softball is to earning a baseball/
softball scholarship or making it to the pro level?”

Engagement The students will be assessed based on their participation in the discussion. All
Assessment students are expected to participate.

Exploration The class consists of 20 students. They will be placed into 5 groups of 4
students for the day’s activities. Each group will be given 2 Wiffle balls, 2
baseball, and 4 gloves, one for each student, as well as 2 cones. The cone will
serve as the marker for where they are to throw from. The cones will be 10 feet
apart to start with and we will slowly move them back as the students become
more comfortable with catching the ball.
The students will each have a glove. They will start out throwing the Wiffle ball.
It is softer and won’t hurt if it hits the student. The students will continue to
throw the Wiffle ball until they are comfortable enough to throw the baseball. I
will make the judgement on which students are allowed to use the baseball
based on what I see during the throwing session and based on my previous
experience with the student.

Written Narrative: Lesson 2

The second lesson was closely related to the first, so the results were mostly the same.

The introduction discussion and YouTube video demonstration both achieved the desired

outcomes. The groups that struggled to stay on task for the previous day’s lesson were great.

They stayed on task and performed the activity as prescribed. I attribute this to having all group

members involved throwing and catching at all times. This limited downtime and helped them to

stay active throughout the activity portion.

The summative assessment portion of the lesson was a Block Poster. This assignment

was simple, but effective. The students were to demonstrate the correct catching stance in their

picture for the poster. The students were able to take their pictures and complete the assignment

in a timely manner. This was the desired result as I didn’t want it to run over into the next day’s

class session like the PowerPoint assignment did. The formative assessment was completed by

monitoring the student’s participation and asking them questions about the lesson during the

different portions of the lesson.

Overall, the objectives were met. The students learned to catch using the proper form.

The different objects used to complete the objective were a Wiffle ball and baseball. The

different trajectories needed to complete the objective were achieved when we changed distances

while throwing during the activity portion of the lesson. The ISTE objective of seeking feedback

through the use of technology was achieved through the use of the Block Poster. The correct

catching form was to be demonstrated. If performed incorrectly, feedback was left.
