Orgeval Community Center and Event

Space, 2016

Function: Community and exhibition center Location: Reim, France

Architecte: f+f architecture Area: 2500m2
Orgeval is a building combines 2 distinct
programmes which is located in France. First
programme is The Salle Municipale, or Event
Space. The second main component, the community
center or Maison the Quartier, on the other hand
offers more day-to-day facilities for the areas
inhabitants with sports, gym and boxing spaces,
classrooms and workshops, daycare, but also spaces
and activities for youth and elderly, as well as social
services.
Orgeval is located in a mostly
residential area.

It is surronded by 3 side road and

one main road.
The main source of noise is the tram
overlooking the west facade of the
building.

Other facades of the building are

surrounded by side streets with a speed
limit of 30 so there is no high traffic
noise.
There are two buildings between the
building and the tram that are high
enough to block the noise at some level.

Open space arrangement cannot help

with sound insulation because there are
not enough trees
The hall is a multipurpose area where
different events can be hold. With a
movable seating system it can host
everything from larger gatherings to
concerts, projections and theatre
performances.
The hall is a shoebox shape
We can find 90 seats in this
multipurpose hall.
Design Principles And Acoustical Criterias

The interior of the main space is in concrete,

alternating smooth and textured surfaces. The
wall elements are skewed, never parallel between
each other, to break sound reflexes and for best
acoustic performance.
Design Principles And Acoustical Criterias

Moveable curtain are used for different usage

and for function variety. The curtain are also
sound absorbers
Design Principles And Acoustical Criterias

The absorptive surface is used at the back side

of the hall to prevent the echo problem.
Design Principles And Acoustical Criterias

The multipurpose hall has a slopped audience

area with a continuous sight line. So everyone
can see and hear the speaker.
Material Information

We don't specially find any ceiling reflectors /cloud

/canopy but the suspended ceiling finishing Heraklith
offers us some accoustical performance.
Heraklith

Heraklith Wood Wool panels have a good sound-

absorption properties.
The open surface structure of Heraklith panels easily
absorbs echoes and unwanted sounds.
It is used one part of the wall and on the ceiling.
Textured Concrete Panel

Two types of concrete panels are used:

Textured and Smooth.
The combination of the textured and smooth
elements is affording a better sound acoustic
performance inside the multipurpose hall.
The panels are skewed it breaks sound reflexes and
give the best acoustic performance
Epoxy
On the floor epoxy is used.
SOLO ACOUSTIC PANEL/ AKTAV
Acoustic panels are sound absorbing panels placed on walls or
ceilings to control and reduce noise, eliminate slap echo and
control comb filtering in a room. The objective is to enhance the
properties of sound by improving sound quality with sound
absorbing panels. Often used to treat recording studio
acoustics, church acoustics, home theater acoustics, restaurant
acoustics, and listening rooms, the purpose of acoustic panels is
to reduce, but not entirely eliminate, resonance within the
room.
