Overview of the network

Contents of this chapter

This chapter briefly describes the purpose and construction of the Ethernet tool network.

Ethernet tool network

The Ethernet tool network enables commissioning and monitoring several single drives, or
inverter and supply units of a multidrive from a single location by using the Drive composer
pro PC tool. Through the network, you can, for example:
• perform drive control program start-ups
• monitor the drive/unit event log
• monitor the signals of each connected drive/unit simultaneously
• set and view the data loggers of each connected drive/unit
• back up the parameter settings of each connected drive/unit after the start-up or
before a software upgrade.
Each drive/unit is connected to the network through a FENA-11 Ethernet adapter module.
The adapter module can be used simultaneously in the Ethernet tool network and for
controlling the drive through the fieldbus interface (Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP or
PROFINET IO PLC control). In addition, it is possible to use another fieldbus adapter
module for fieldbus control instead of FENA-11.
You can view the drive status via the ACS-AP-x assistant control panel while the Ethernet
tool network is in use.

The tool functions are divided into three tabs:
• Scan
• Block Ports
• Manual Editor.

„ Scan tab

In the Configuration mode drop-down list, you can select between automatic and fixed
configuration modes.
The Scan Network button scans the network for online Ethernet devices. The results
depend on the current profile and URLs in the configuration file. The results list shows one
entry per device.
The Copy selected to fixed button copies the selected scan results to the Fixed IP
addresses text box.
The Add fixed IP button adds IP addresses into the configuration file. You must first type
the address into the box to the left and then click the button. The address will appear in the
Fixed IP addresses box.
The Delete selected IPs button deletes IP addresses from the configuration file. You must
first select the address in the Fixed IP addresses box and then click the button.

„ Block Ports tab

On the left side of the tab, you can see a Scan COM Ports button and a list of the Current
COM Ports on PC, which is initially empty. The list will display entries when you click the
Scan COM Ports button. The list only displays those active COM ports that are visible in
the Windows Device Manager and conform to the naming convention, where the COM
port name includes the COM number in brackets, for example, (COM10). The list will be
refreshed only when you make a new scan.
In the middle, there are arrow buttons which move items from the Current COM Ports on
PC list to the List Of Blocked COM Ports. COM ports can only be blocked for the profile
currently in use. It is recommended to block ports only if the Drive composer pro
communication is disrupted by third-party software, such as Bluetooth drivers. The list
saves any changes into the configuration file immediately.
Even if a COM port is not shown in the Current COM Ports on PC list, you can still block
it by using the Manual Blocker. You must first type the port name in the box and then click
the Block COM Port button. The box only accepts input which begins with COM and ends
with a 1-digit or 2-digit number within the range 0...99. For example, COM1, COM5, or
COM93.

The Save File button saves the changes made. You can save changes at any time.
The Restore button restores the initial configuration saved to the memory at the session
start. For example, if you save a file with wrong parameters, you can restore everything up
to the session start as long as the software is running. However, the session start data is
not automatically saved to the file after restoring, that is, saving is optional.
Note: If you want to disable Ethernet communication, set EnableEthCommunication to 0.
Drive Ethernet Configurator Tool 33

Example: Disabling Ethernet communication temporarily with certain

IP addresses
If you have tens of drives and want to communicate only to certain IP addresses, you can
speed up the start-up communication time by disabling a few of the IP addresses.
Note: You can only disable fixed IP addresses.
1. On the Manual Editor tab, scroll down until you find the [FixedURL] tag.

2. Scroll down until you find a row that starts with URL0.
There are three IP addresses set:
• URL0=192.168.0.11
• URL1=192.168.0.12
• URL2=192.168.0.13.

3. Disable communication with URL2 by typing a semi-colon before URL2 and the next
three rows below it.

4. Click Save File.

Note: Saving is mandatory. If you do not save the changes, you will lose them when
the tool is closed.
With these settings, the Drive composer pro PC tool communicates with addresses URL0
and URL1, but not with URL2. This will speed up the communication.
