Introduction to the manual 7
1
Introduction to the manual
Safety instructions
Obey all safety instructions delivered with the drive.
Read the complete safety instructions before you install, start up, or use the drive.
• For ACS880 multidrives, the complete safety instructions are given in Safety
instructions for ACS880 multidrive cabinets and modules (3AUA0000102301
[English]).
• For ACS880 single drives, the complete safety instructions are given in the
appropriate drive hardware manual.
8 Introduction to the manual
Applicability
This manual applies to Ethernet tool networks for ACS880 drives.
The network is available as a factory-installed option for cabinet-installed drives, including
FENA-11 Ethernet adapter modules, Ethernet switches and the installation. These options
are available:
• +K480 (includes an Ethernet switch for PC tool or control network)
or
• +K483 (includes an Ethernet switch with optical link for PC tool or control network).
A factory-installed network is ready to use after you check the settings described in
chapter Starting up the network, and connect a PC with the Drive composer pro PC tool.
The network can also be constructed by the customer. Then, the customer needs to
acquire the FENA-11 Ethernet adapter modules and Ethernet switches, and make the
installations by themselves.
Target audience
This manual is intended for people who plan the installation, install, start up, use or service
the Ethernet tool network. Read the manual before working on the equipment.
You are expected to be an automation engineering professional or an electrician and
familiar with drive products and the concepts regarding their commissioning and operation,
including the parameter system of ABB drives. Also, a basic knowledge of the Microsoft
Windows operating system is needed.
Assistant control panel Control panel with a USB connector enabling a PC tool connection for
common architecture drives. Assistant control panel is a generic name for
ACS-AP-I and ACS-AP-S panels.
DHCP Dynamic Host Control Protocol. A protocol for automating the configuration
of IP devices. DHCP can be used to automatically assign IP addresses and
related network information.
MAC ID Every node on an Ethernet network has to have a unique identifier. This
node number is called MAC ID (Media Access Control ID).
Multidrive Drive for controlling several motors which are typically coupled to the same
machinery. Includes one supply unit, and one or several inverter units.

Overview of the network
•••
Ethernet switch
Ethernet cabling
The Ethernet tool network supports twisted pair as the physical media in a star topology.
The maximum length for an Ethernet segment on twisted pair cable is 100 meters. All
twisted pair cables between the Ethernet node and the switch must be shorter than
100 meters. For more information, see chapter Technical data.

Tasks
Safety
WARNING! Obey all safety instructions delivered with the drive. Only qualified electricians
are allowed to start up the drive.
Preliminary actions
Power up the drive.
Set parameter 51.09 Subnet CIDR to the desired value for the FENA-11 adapter module. Use the
same value for all modules in the network. Examples:
• 24 = Mask 255.255.255.0
• 25 = Mask 255.255.255.128
For a comparison table of CIDR notation and dotted decimal values, see parameter 09 SUBNET
CIDR in FENA-01/-11 Ethernet adapter module user’s manual (3AUA0000093568 [English]).

Tasks
Validating the parameter settings
Set parameter 96.07 Parameter save manually to Save.
This setting saves the valid parameter values to the permanent memory.
Repeat the steps for each drive/unit that you want to connect to the network.
20 Starting up the network
Configuring the PC
Configure your PC to the same subnet as the FENA-11 adapter modules. For example:
IP address Subnet mask
Module 1 192.168.0.11 255.255.255.0 (CDIR: 24)
Module 2 192.168.0.12 255.255.255.0 (CDIR: 24)
PC 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
3. Open the Command Prompt and ping for the module IP addresses.

Connecting to drives
Alternative 1: Static IP addresses, firewall disabled
Do these steps if the network has a static IP configuration and disabling the firewall is
possible.
1. Disable the firewall.
2. Start the Drive composer pro PC tool.
With the example IP configuration (see page 18), connecting to one drive can take up
to 20 seconds. The more devices in the network, the longer the time.
3. If you do not find all drives in the network, scan the network using the Drive Ethernet
Configurator Tool.
For instructions, see section Example: Scanning for online Ethernet devices on
page 29.
2. Click the Scan network button to see whether you can find the drives in the network.
If the firewall is enabled, no drives will appear in the results list. You can ignore the
message that appears.
Starting up the network 25
3. In the Configuration mode list, select Fixed to enable the Fixed IP addresses text
box.
4. In the bottom left corner, type an IP address for the first FENA-11 adapter module, and
then click the Add fixed IP button.
The IP address appears in the Fixed IP addresses box.
Add addresses for the rest of the adapter modules in the same way, one by one.
26 Starting up the network
5. Check that all the correct IP addresses are now included in the Fixed IP addresses
box.
From now on, the Drive Composer pro PC tool will communicate only with these fixed
IP addresses.
6. Start the Drive composer pro PC tool.

Software requirements
• Operating system Windows XP, Windows 7 or Windows 8 with .NET framework 3.5
installed
• Drive composer pro PC tool
28 Drive Ethernet Configurator Tool
Installation
The configurator tool software is included in the Drive composer pro installation package.
Note: If Drive composer pro is not installed on your PC or the configuration file is not found
in its correct folder, the configurator tool will not function.
User interface
The tool functions are divided into three tabs:
• Scan
• Block Ports
• Manual Editor.
Scan tab
In the Configuration mode drop-down list, you can select between automatic and fixed
configuration modes.
The Scan Network button scans the network for online Ethernet devices. The results
depend on the current profile and URLs in the configuration file. The results list shows one
entry per device.
The Copy selected to fixed button copies the selected scan results to the Fixed IP
addresses text box.
The Add fixed IP button adds IP addresses into the configuration file. You must first type
the address into the box to the left and then click the button. The address will appear in the
Fixed IP addresses box.
The Delete selected IPs button deletes IP addresses from the configuration file. You must
first select the address in the Fixed IP addresses box and then click the button.

2. Check that all devices in the network are included in the list.
• If no devices are found, you will see a checklist, which may help you find the
devices. Note: The checklist is only displayed once, that is, after the first scan with
no results.
• If some, but not all the devices are found, check the FENA-11 parameter settings
and cabling, and then redo the scan.
30 Drive Ethernet Configurator Tool
On the left side of the tab, you can see a Scan COM Ports button and a list of the Current
COM Ports on PC, which is initially empty. The list will display entries when you click the
Scan COM Ports button. The list only displays those active COM ports that are visible in
the Windows Device Manager and conform to the naming convention, where the COM
port name includes the COM number in brackets, for example, (COM10). The list will be
refreshed only when you make a new scan.
In the middle, there are arrow buttons which move items from the Current COM Ports on
PC list to the List Of Blocked COM Ports. COM ports can only be blocked for the profile
currently in use. It is recommended to block ports only if the Drive composer pro
communication is disrupted by third-party software, such as Bluetooth drivers. The list
saves any changes into the configuration file immediately.
Even if a COM port is not shown in the Current COM Ports on PC list, you can still block
it by using the Manual Blocker. You must first type the port name in the box and then click
the Block COM Port button. The box only accepts input which begins with COM and ends
with a 1-digit or 2-digit number within the range 0...99. For example, COM1, COM5, or
COM93.

Using the RTF editor, you can view and edit the configuration file contents that are
editable.
The Save File button saves the changes made. You can save changes at any time.
The Restore button restores the initial configuration saved to the memory at the session
start. For example, if you save a file with wrong parameters, you can restore everything up
to the session start as long as the software is running. However, the session start data is
not automatically saved to the file after restoring, that is, saving is optional.
Note: If you want to disable Ethernet communication, set EnableEthCommunication to 0.

2. Scroll down until you find a row that starts with URL0.
There are three IP addresses set:
• URL0=192.168.0.11
• URL1=192.168.0.12
• URL2=192.168.0.13.
