Goals 101

Handout
Goals are an easy and efficient way to track and assess your KPI’s.
Let’s review how to create a Goal in 10 steps.

1
Navigate to the Goals List under the Analyze and act in your selected
Workspace. Then, click on Add New to create a new Goal:

2
Let’s begin to configure this Goal’s General Setting

2d

2a. Name your Goal.

2b. Select the Measurement you wish to monitor. In this case, we’d like to
reach 2000 Clicks in a specific Campaign, so our Measurement will be
Clicks.
2c. Select the Measurement Type for the above Measurement – by
default, this will be set to Summable. However, if you wish to track a
Measurement that is a percentage, for example, a Click-through Rate,
you should select Non-summable.

2d. Define the Goal Type – At Least, Exactly, or At Most. In this example,
we wish to get at least 2000 Clicks for our Campaign, so we will select
At Least. An example for an At Most Goal Type would be an instance
where you wish to cap the Media Cost for Media Buys, so that the cost
for each Media Buy Key does not exceed 150 USD.

Configure the Goal’s timeframe

3b

3c

3a. Set the Time Period for the goal – in this case, we are tracking a
Campaign that will run through 2017, so we have selected THIS YEAR.

3b. Use the Included Days section to determine which Weekdays should
be included in the Goal. In this case, we have elected to exclude
Sundays from this Goal.

3c. Period Granularity allows you to set sub-periods for your goal, for
example, you could set a Weekly benchmark within the Goal
timeframe.

4b

4c

4a. Define the Dimension to which the goal will be connected. In our
example, that will Campaign Name, as we are tracking a Campaign.

If the hierarchy for selected Dimension requires editing, you can customize
it by using the Dimension Hierarchy option. For more information on this
option, please refer to the Goals Section within our Knowledge Base.

4b. If you wish to specify different Goal Values for different Dimension
Values that are relevant to your Goal, you can do so by setting a Goal
Granularity. An example for this would be if we were using this Goal to
assess several Campaigns, and we wanted to set a different Clicks Goal for
each of those Campaigns.

4c. Use the Goal Ranges option to determine how different percentages of
the goal will show up in the Goals List, Goals Scorecard, and any other
visualizations for this Goal. In this case, we have determined that any
values between 0% and 70% will show up as red, while values between
70% and 90% will show up as yellow, and values between 90% and 150%
will show up as green.

Use the following section to apply more specialized configurations
to your Goal:

5a

5b

5a. If you have a certain Measurement you wish to use as a benchmark for
this Goal, you can configure that within the Values Fill Type and
Fill Measurement sections.

The following options - Prediction Sampling and Rate Calculation-

allow you to apply more specialized calculations to your Goal. For
more information on these customizable settings, please refer to the
Goals Section within our Knowledge Base.

5b. If the values relevant for this Goal are imported through a specific Data
Stream or set of Data Streams, you can set the Goal to be triggered by
those Data Streams being updated in the Run After section. In this
example, the Goal has been configured to run after ‘My Data Stream’.

6
Use the Filter section to filter your Goal for a specific Dimension or
Measurement Value. In this case, we’re tracking a specific Campaign, so the
filter will be set for that Campaign’s Campaign Name.
7
Use the Values Section to manually fill in the Goal Values. In this case,
we wish to reach at least 2000 Clicks for our Campaign, so the Goal
Value will be 2000

8
Configure the Notifications for your Goal:

8a. Select whether Notifications for this goal will be shown in the
Notifications Pane.

8b. Use this section to configure Email Notifications for this Goal. In this
example, we wish for Email Notifications to be sent to the address
training@datorama.com.

You can customize the Goal’s Email Notifications through the Email
Notification Sort By, and Email Notification Sort Order options.
9
Use the Actions tab to link this Goal to any Actions within this Workspace.

our Knowledge Base.
