Scoop tag

Description Instructions:
- Choose 3 students as taggers and they will run without a ball
- All other players carry out a ball and run around in the area
evading taggers
- Taggers call out touch when they effect a touch on a runner
- The player tagged, must immediately perform a roll ball and
now become a tagger
- Rotate taggers
Variations - Once tagger scoops the ball up, they immediately pass back to
the runner and continue chasing (don’t change spots with the
runner)
KTP Running with the ball:
- Carrying the ball in two hands in front of the body

Effecting a touch:
- Be positioned to one side of the ball carrier to reduce evasion
options
- Look at the waist or trunk of the ball carrier
- Move towards the ball carrier and slow down slightly
- Touch the ball carrier with a light tap and call out ‘yes’ or ‘touch’

Roll ball:
- The players with the ball faces the opposing team’s touchdown
zone
- The ball is placed on the ground between the feet preferably
the ball is stationary however it may roll backwards maximum
of 1m
- The player then steps over the ball
LEST L: Split the class into 2 and have 2 games going
E: dependent on the size of the class, all students have a ball besides
the 3 students, 4 cones
S: 10 x 10m grid times 2 (2 grids)
T: 10-15 minutes

Back to back
Description Instructions:
- Pairs collect 4 cones and 2 ball to create their playing area
- A ball is placed at one end of the score line
- Pairs start back to back in the middle of the area
- When the facing player calls out ‘go’ both players run opposite
ends if the area and around the cone
- The player who was facing the ball scoops it up and attempts to
score a touchdown
- The play is completed when a touch down has occurred
- They are to take turns facing the ball (to call go)
- Sets of pairs are to swap over
Variations - Increase the size of the area and play with 2 attackers against
1 defender
- The attackers can pass or run themselves
- Rotate pairs around to the other games to add variety and
more challenging
- Have a king of the court set up

Side Step (Evasion)
- Body is positioned to one side of the defender- Knees and the
hips flex to lower the base of support
- Hand nearest the defender is extended to initiate the touch on
opponent with minimal force
Scoring
- Cross the score line
- Bend the knees and lower the body
- Use both hands to place the ball on the ground

Tricky touch downs
Description - Organise players into groups of 6
- Set them on a diagonal points of the playing area
- A defender can only enter the playing area once the attacker
has entered the area
- Points are awarded when the attacker runs over the line
without being touched
- An attacker and defender should move out of the playing area
quickly once defender tags attacker or when attacker passes
designated line, this allows for the next group to go
- Once an attacker has attacked, they join the defending line and
so on
Variations Attacker grounds the ball over the touch line after each pay even when
scored.
- And acting half standing near the attackers can pass the ball to
the attacker who then enters the playing area on the run
- Change the size of the playing area
