Lesson Procedure:

1) The teacher and the students will work together to create sentences that contain the
vocabulary words. Students should try to relate the words back to the stories we have
read.

2) Teacher will display KWL chart from the beginning of the unit. The teacher and students
will write down some of the things we have learned about heroes. Students should
reference specific details from the stories. Also, teacher and students should discuss
character traits and how they relate to being a hero.

3) In order to demonstrate an understanding of character traits, students will complete a

Biopoem on one person we talked about during this unit. The Biopoem should include:
name, four traits to describe the character, two things the person loved, four feelings the
person experienced, three fears the person experienced, one accomplishment, and their
last name. Students will complete this assignment on Microsoft Word and should be
given time to complete it. (2-3 days)
4) After students have completed their BioPoem, they will complete a sequencing activity
on storyboard.com. Students will create a comic strip for the same person they wrote a
BioPoem about on storyboard.com. Students will create at least 5 details from the story
and place them in sequential order. (Students should be given at least 2-3 days to work on
this activity.)

5) When students have finished the BioPoem and comic strip, they will present it to the
class.
