Rationale

For class

This is the last class before spring break so I’m a little concerned students may be
kind of mentally checked out and I already know a few students will be absent.
Therefore, I wanted to plan a lesson that was very fun and engaging (of course I
always want students to have fun and be engaged in what we’re learning, but today I
think this may require a more “special” lesson plan) but that won’t leave the students
who are absent “behind” on material. We will learn about French cafes, specifically
Les Deux Magots, and look at the breakfast menu for this cafe, which fits in our
current unit, La nourriture.

Pre-Lesson Analysis

Critical questions

I’m wondering if we will be able to get through everything in this LP because it is a lot.
I have a feeling we might not have time for the Blooket, but I’m hoping we will
because these students LOVE Blooket and get so excited when we have time to play,
so I think that will be a fun way to end class on the last day before break starts (if
there’s time).

English usage rational

We will talk about the video in English because when I’m asking the students
questions about the video I want the students to actually comprehend the cultural
information not just parrot back what the video said without understanding it.

How I am engaging oral proficiency

Students will listen to my directions in French and watch a video about French cafes
in the target language. Additionally, students will practice the pronunciation of some
useful cafe vocabulary and one student will say the date at the beginning of class.

Cultural component

The students will learn about cafes in France with a focus on Les Deux Magots and
will look at the breakfast menu from this cafe. Students will also listen to songs and
watch music videos from two French-speaking artists.

Post-Lesson Analysis

Evidence that students learned

As a class, students were able to understand the entire video and explain the
meaning of each section in English. Additionally, they knew many different menu
items and expressed what they would like to order if they were having breakfast at the
cafe.

Critical question responses

We did have time for a short Blooket game, the students did so well in this LP and
were so engaged, so I’m glad we were able to play a game as the last activity before
break started.
