Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)
1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?

This field experience focused on the development of a technology plan for Coahulla Creek High School. The
experience took place throughout most of the spring semester. The first assignment was an analysis of the current
SIP and technology plans for my school and district. The second assignment was a SWOT analysis of the current
digital equity, professional development, and technology integration for my school. The third assignment was the
development of a shared vision for the school based on the findings from the first two assignments. The fourth
assignment was the creation of an action plan to facilitate the implementation of the shared vision within the school.
The final assignment was writing a grant for a piece of instructional technology to be used in the school as part of
the implementation of the shared vision.

This field experience provided me with an opportunity to see technology integration from a leadership position.
Analyzing the current SIP and technology plans allowed me to reflect on the content I have learned during the
course and semester. I was able to evaluate the plans based on their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Technology leaders need to consider all these components as they address issues like digital equity within the school
and school system. Technology facilitation takes in-depth analysis and continued re-evaluation to ensure the
effectiveness of technology integration plans.

2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able
to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or
technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the language of the PSC
standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)
Knowledge - This field experience demonstrates my understanding of online and blended learning by offering
opportunities and choices for professional learning (PSC 3.3). This field experience allowed me to demonstrate my
understanding of the need for equitable access for all students even those who require the use of adaptive or assistive
technologies (PSC 3.4 & 4.1). My knowledge of ensuring the ethical use of technology in a culturally supportive
learning environment is evident in the artifacts of this field experience. (PSC 4.2 & 4.3).

Skills – This field experience demonstrates my ability to analyze current SIP and technology plans for strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. These skills are used to develop and implement a shared vision that can be
used to manage the change process in the school (PSC 1.1 & 1.4). The assignments in this field experience included
the design, development, and evaluation of strategic plans for technology integration through the providing
strategies to support implementation (1.2 & 1.3). The peer coaching in the field experience shows my ability to use
digital communication to collaborate with peers (PSC 3.7).
Dispositions – This field experience demonstrates my belief that a leader of technology should continual growth of
knowledge and skills of current emerging technologies (PSC 6.1). This field experience embodies the belief that
technology leaders should engage in field experiences to apply content and professional knowledge to continue to
develop their ability to be effective leaders (PSC 6.3).

3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student
learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?

This field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development, and student learning in a multitude of
ways. School improvement was impacted as I was able to use the SWOT analysis to make suggested improvements
to the school’s current SIP and technology plans. The action plan for these improvements included professional
development on the ISTE standards and problem-based learning. The focused training on these two topics will
improve teachers’ instructional practices. Student engagement and learning will improve as teachers begin to
implement the ISTE standards and problem-based learning. Student-centered learning that is enhanced by
technology will have a profound impact on student learning and achievement.
