11 = eleven 20 = twenty 29 = twenty nine

Language point

Pay attention to the following:


seven / 7 is a Number.
Seven is a Word.
7 is a Figure.
1.7 is a Decimal.

So if you are asked to write these figures in words, then it will become:
15 = fifteen (word)
16.5 = sixteen point five (word)
500 = five hundreds
Language point

Or if you are asked to write these words in figures, then it will become like this:

Seventeen = 17
Eigth point seven = 8.7
Twelve point three = 12.3
one hundred and one = 101

The sentence pattern

This is a square. It is 15 cm long


and 15 cm high.

a. The use of the words LONG, WIDE and HIGH are very common in

technical measurements. They are used in sentences when we want to


tell the measurements of some objects around us.

b. If you see the examples given about the square, the cube and the
calculator, then you can see that the words LONG, WIDE and HIGH are
put after the figures or the measurements of the objects.

The length of the ruler is 1 m.

the width is 60 mm and the height is 7 mm.
The use of LENGTH, HEIGHT, WIDTH in
sentences
a. The words LENGTH, HEIGHT, and WIDTH are noun. Noun occupies the position of a subject in
a sentence. That is the reason why these words are put at the beginning of the sentences.

b. If you see the examples then you see the words LENGTH, HEIGHT, and WIDTH function as a
subject of the sentence, then comes the verbs and comes the figures or the measurements.

another example:

a. The height of the building is 100 m.

b. The width of my house is 9 m.


ASSIGNMENT

1. Describe the following pictures using LONG, HIGH, WIDE.


2. Describe the pictures using the words LENGTH, HEIGHT, and WIDTH.
