Q3
The equilibrium data for a certain compound are as follows:

xA yA
0 0
0.05 0.022
0.1 0.052
0.15 0.087
0.2 0.131
0.25 0.187
0.3 0.265
0.35 0.385

The point xAL = 0.10 and yAG = 0.38 represent the bulk liquid and gas concentrations
respectively.
In a graph paper do the following:
1. Draw the equilibrium curve (xA and yA).
2. Locate point P (xAL, yAG)
3. From the point P (xAL, yAG) draw a line with slope m to intersect the equilibrium curve
at point M (xAi, yAi) and find the coordinates of point M (xAi, yAi)

Slope m = -kx/(1-xA)im
ky/(1-yA)im

Where,
ky = 1.465 x 10-3
kx = 1.967 x 10-3

(1-xA)im =(1-xAL)-(1-xAi)
Ln 1-xAL
1-xAi
(1-yA)im =(1-yAi)-(1-yAG)
Ln 1-yAi
1-yAG
Important Notice:
It is trial and error problem. Start with initial values of xAi and yAi. Each student start with his
own first trial by choosing the last four digits from his Student ID number as decimals. If for
example, your ID number is 437102315, then your xAi = 0.15, and yAi =0.23)
The initial values of xAi and yAi each must be less than 0.5, so (e.g. if your Student ID number
is 437109876, then your xAi =1- 0.76= 0.24, and yAi =1- 0.98=0.02).
