Notes/Mater
Content/Description ials
What do I want my students to learn?
1. How to properly tape an ankle
2. Various foot injuries (mechanism, signs/symptoms,
prevention/treatment)
3. How to properly tape an Achilles tendon
How will I know my lesson was successful?
1. Students will complete an exit slip
2. Students will be able to tape an ankle/Achilles correctly
3. Students are engaged and asking thought-provoking questions
Introduction (5 mins):
"Today, we will start off with reviewing the foot bone quiz. For the most
part you guys did great. As I go through the quiz, make corrections
directly on it. This will be a fantastic study tool.”
o I will hand back their quizzes and will go through each question. I
will answer any questions students may have.
“Who remembers what the steps of PF2 are? The first two rows will
tape first. Each group will get 25 minutes to tape. When you are finished
raise your hand and I will come check it on. Those who are not taping,
you can work on your chapter 6 worksheet. In the second half of class,
we will play a chapter 6 Kahoot. The person who comes in first place
will get a bonus mark on their quiz tomorrow.”
Classroom management: One row at a time will tape their partner's foot
while the other rows are working through chapter 6
Tape
Activity 3: Practice Ankle Taping (40 mins) Pro-wrap
“I will now give you guys some time to practice your ankle taping.
Reminder that your ankle tape test is on Thursday. You will only have 10
minutes to tape, so I will put a timer on and when it hits 10 minutes, we
will switch partners.”
I will allow students to practice their ankle taping
Those who are not taping can work on chapter 6, study for their quiz
tomorrow or unit exam on Friday.
Transition: I will ask all students to come back to their desks and put the
tape away. While they are doing this, I will put up the injury
PowerPoint.
“We have gone over ankle sprains, fractures, turf toe, plantar fascia 1 &
2 and now we are focusing on shin splints, anterior compartment
syndrome and Achilles tendon. Flip to your injury chart and copy down
the information”
“Everyone login into Kahoot and type in the pin. This is a 10-question
quiz focusing on chapter 6. Just like we did last time, whoever finished
first will get a bonus mark on their quiz tomorrow. The quiz will consist
of true and false, fill-in-the-blanks and short answer. If you have
completed the worksheet and know the answers to the Kahoot, you
should have no problems with the quiz.”
(this acts as a formative assessment tool and a way for me to see where
students are at identifying the muscles of the lower leg.)
I will move into talking about my uncles Achilles rupture and his
treatment plan
Next part is going through the Achilles tendon strain, tendinitis and
bursitis.
“Before everyone starts packing up, with a partner discuss the steps to
plantar fascia 2 taping. In 2 minutes, we will go over the answers as a
class.”
