Good morning Sir, good morning classmates

My report is about culture, definition of culture

Culture was derived from the Latin words, cultus, cultura and colere, meaning ‘to
nurse,’ ‘to cultivate and ‘to care for.’
It means to inhabit, to cultivate, or to honour. It is understood as an act of
transforming nature in order to serve human needs .Culture is the way people
interact in their day to day lives. It is also the particular beliefs and thoughts
of people.

Edward Tyler, a well-known anthropologist defined culture as a complex whole which

includes knowledge, belief, arts, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities
and habits acquired by man as a member of society.

If we say complex whole it is a package that is composed different part 0r

component or we can also say the pinagsama-samang pananaw ng mga tao sa kanilang
lipuna
. beliefs which are the tenets or convictions that people hold to be true.

arts-arts allow people from different cultures and different times to communicate
with each other via images, sounds and stories.

morals-Moral refers to what societies sanction as right and acceptable. Most people
tend to act morally and follow societal guidelines.

law-Law has been defined as “a body of rules of action or conduct prescribed by a

controlling authority, and having binding legal force.

custom- Custom is defined as a tradition or a usual way to behave. Tradition or

practice

”. The phrases ‘acquired by man’ and ‘ shows important dimensions of culture.

A human child, as he grows up, learns gradually from parents or from members of the
group among whom he is born and among whom he lives.

The fact of learning indicates that one cannot acquire culture in isolation from
society. In other words, the concept of culture has a social context. what is
learned in one generation is passed on to successive generations.
This is a unique aspect of human culture. Acquisition of a particular way of life
through tradition is possible simply because human beings possess the ability to
learn from the group

Yung culture natutunan natin yung sa mga magulang at paligid sila ung
nkakainfluence kung pano tayo magaact inside a society.

Type of Culture

Material culture refers to the concrete and tangible things that man creates and
uses. They range from the prehistoric stone tools of primitive man to the most
advanced computer of the modern man.
Sample damit, food, houses

Non-material culture consists of words people use; the habits they follow; the
ideas, customs and behavior that any society professes and to which they strive to
conform. Laws, techniques, lifestyle, and knowledge are included, too.

Basic charactersitic of culture

Culture has five basic characteristics: It is learned, shared, based on symbols,

integrated, and dynamic.

Culture is learned
. It is not biological; we do not inherit it. Much of learning culture is
unconscious. We learn culture from families, peers, institutions, and media.

Culture is shared
it can be shared through storytelling, music, song, dance, or art.

. Because we share culture with other members of our group, we are able to act in
socially appropriate ways as well as predict how others will act.

Culture is based on symbols.

A symbol is something that stands for something else. They only have meaning when
people in a culture agree on their use. Language, money and art are all symbols.
Language is the most important symbolic component of culture.

Culture is integrated.
This is known as holism, or the various parts of a culture being interconnected.
All aspects of a culture are related to one another and to truly understand a
culture, one must learn about all of its parts, not only a few.

Culture is dynamic.
This simply means that cultures interact and change. Because most cultures are in
contact with other cultures, they exchange ideas and symbols.

Components of culture

The five components of culture include symbols, language, values, beliefs and
norms

SYMBOLS

Symbols may be either physical or non-physical. A flag is an example of a physical

symbol, and bows and curtsies are examples of non-physical symbols.

#LANGUAGE
Language is used for communication. It can be written or spoken. Even when a
culture uses the same basic language as another culture, differences in terminology
and inflection create new meanings.

VALUES
Values help define acceptable behavior within the society. Values can be different
for each group to which a person belongs. For example, it may be acceptable in the
family group to eat certain foods that are not accepted within the religious group
a person chooses.

Beliefs
Beliefs fulfill the spiritual needs of a culture. A whole culture can be based on
one set of beliefs, yet a larger cultural group may have many different sets of
beliefs.
NORMS
Norms are the rules, mores and traditions within a culture. or mga kaugalian
