Instructions:
Attempt all questions in section A and not more than FIVE from section B.
SECTION A
x
1. Express 0.41818… in the simplest form of y hence find x + y.
2x2 x 6
2. Simplify; x 2
8. Below is a sector of a circle whose radius is 6cm and angle at the centre is 100 o. It folded
to form a cone. Find the radius of the circular end of that cone.
100o
6cm

9. Given T is a translation
and X is the reflection in x – axis.
3
Find the coordinates of A if TX(A) = (5, -1).

10. Given the function f and g are such that f(x) = 2x + 5 and g(x) = x2 – 25.
(i) Write down an expression for gf(x)
(ii) Find x if gf(x)=5
SECTION B
11. A survey carried out by the education reform commission revealed that of the 62
schools visited, 32 has science laboratories (S), 41 had computer room(C) and 30 had art
studios (A), six schools had both S and A but not C. 18 schools had both S and C while 21
schools had both C and A. it was discovered many upcoming schools did not have these
facilities and these were a quarter of these with C and A only.
(a) Represent the information on a Venn diagram
(b) Find how many schools (i) did not have any of the three facilities
(ii) had at least two of these facilities
(c) What is the probability that a school chosen at random had only one of these
facilities.
12. The figure below shows a pyramid with a triangular base ABC with V vertically above A.
given angle BAC = 900, AV = 6cm and AB = AC= 8cm. If X is the midpoint of BC
Calculate;
(i) Length BC
(ii) Length AX
(iii) Angle between VC and the base
(iv) Angle between plane VBC and ABC
(v) volume of the pyramid

form A’’B’’C’’.
Find (a) the coordinates of (i) A, B and C
(ii) A’’, B’’ and C’’

(b) a single matrix that transforms ABC to A’’B’’C’’.
(c) Ratio for area ABC to area of A’’B’’C’’.
(a) Form a frequency distribution table with equal class intervals of 6 starting with 30 as
the lower class limit of the first class.
(b) State (i) median class
(ii) modal frequency
c) (i) mean
(ii) mode
(iii) median
Calculate;
(a) Total monthly allowances
(b) Taxable income and tax he pays under the tax rates below
Taxable income tax rates (%)

Above 310,000 30
16.
G iven that M is the midpoint of OA, AB:AC = 1:3, MN:NC = 1:4, OA = a and OB = b
(a) Express the following in terms of a and b.
(i) MA (ii) AB (iii) OC (iv) ON
(b) Determine the ratio ON:NB
17. The manager of a Hotel has sufficient money to buy a total of 100 crates of soft drinks of
type A and B. He wants to buy at least twice as many crates of type A as those of type B.
He also wants to buy atmost 60 crates of type A and atleast 20 crates of type B. Taking x
and y to be the number of type A and type B respectively;
(a) Write down all the inequalities based on the above facts.
(b) Show the inequalities on the same graph by shading off the unwanted region.
c) The profit on a crate of type A is sh 6,000 and that of type B is sh 4,000. Find the
number of crates of each type that he should buy to make maximum profit.
Calculate the maximum profit.
