SYNTHESIS 3

Distinguish and explain how the following terms are being use in research. Write many as you
can and make sure provide an explanation for each word. You may use a separate sheet for
this activity.

RESEARCH PROBLEM
A research problem is a specific issue, difficulty, contradiction, or gap in knowledge that you will
aim to address in your research. You might look for practical problems aimed at contributing to
change, or theoretical problems aimed at expanding knowledge.

BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

The background of the problem provides context to the information that you are discussing in
your paper. Thus, the background of the study generates the reader's interest in your research
question and helps them understand why your study is important.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
Research objectives describe concisely what the research is trying to achieve. They summarize
the accomplishments a researcher wishes to achieve through the project and provides direction
to the study.

RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

A research hypothesis is a statement of expectation or prediction that will be tested by research.

Before formulating your research hypothesis, read about the topic of interest to you. In your
hypothesis, you are predicting the relationship between variables.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The scope of a study explains the extent to which the research area will be explored in the work
and specifies the parameters within the study will be operating. Generally, the scope of a
research paper is followed by its limitations. The limitations of the study are those
characteristics of design or methodology that impacted or influenced the interpretation of the
findings from your research.

SYNTHESIS 4
Rubrics (Total of 5 points)
What do you think is the importance of literature review?
The literature review is important because:

● It describes how the proposed research is related to prior research in statistics.

● It shows the originality and relevance of your research problem. Specifically, your
research is different from other statisticians.
● It demonstrates your preparedness to complete the research.
SYNTHESIS 5
Is your research quantitative? If yes, what research method or methods will you use for
analysis.
Choose from the following.

Quantitative Research Analysis ✔️

Techniques and Methods ✔️
Statistical analysis ✔️
Descriptive analysis ✔️
Use of graphs, charts and tables ✔️
Use of frequency distribution ✔️
