Sciences  Resume  Requirement

Checklist

We  want  to  make  the  most  of  our  time  together  during  your  Career  Center  visit.    To  have  a  more  meaningful  discussion
about  your  resume,  come  prepared  with  a  draft  that  includes  the  information  below.    All  elements  on  this  checklist  must
be  included  on  your  resume  to  receive  approval.

Bring  this  form,  your  laptop,  and  a  hard  copy  of  your  resume  when  you  visit  Garey  117.  This  list  will  be  checked,  signed
by  a  Career  Counselor,  and  stapled  to  your  final  resume  draft.

[      ]   Education  Section.
Include  your  degree  (Bachelor  of  Science)  and  your  major  in  the  Education  section.  Minors  and
concentrations  should  also  go  here.

[      ]   Relevant  Training,  Research  &  Leadership  Experience.
The  more  relevant  experience  you  can  show  on  your  resume,  the  more  appealing  you  will  be.    This  could  be
through  work,  academics,  research,  or  activities.  Leadership  experience  is  also  valuable  to  highlight.

[    ]  Optional:  List  relevant  coursework  in  Education  or  Related  Coursework  section.
[    ]  Optional:  List  any  related  clubs,  activities,  classroom  projects,  research  or  internships.    Consider  including
sections  such  as  Work  Experience,  Internships,  Academic  Projects,  Research,  or  Activities.
[    ]  Optional:  Include  any  leadership  positions  you’ve  held,  perhaps  in  a  Leadership  section.

Eventually,  you  may  include  a  “Related  Experience”  section  that  focuses  on  a  specific  industry  or  area  of
interest  (i.e.  Research  Experience;  Environmental  Studies  Experience;  Healthcare  &  Lab  Experience).

[      ]   Skills  &  Certifications.
If  you  have  skills  relevant  to  a  work  setting  (i.e.  PowerPoint,  Excel,  Access)  or  a  specific  industry  (i.e.  GIS  for
Environmental  Science),  these  are  important  to  include.  Language  proficiency  is  also  worth  noting.

[      ]   Villanova  &  High  School  Experiences.

Your  academic  achievements,  activities,  and  leadership  from  high  school  are  still  recent  and  likely  relevant.
Include  any  major  involvements  on  your  resume  (i.e.  Varsity  Sports,  Yearbook,  Key  Club).  If  you’re  active  at
Villanova,  too,  describe  your  college  experiences  first  in  each  section.

[      ]   Dynamic  &  Consistent  Formatting.  (bold,  italics,  underline,  bullets)
These  modifiers  make  your  resume  more  organized  and  easy  to  read.  You  don’t  have  to  use  all  of  these
elements,  but  employ  some.    Once  you  adopt  a  certain  format  style  for  one  section,  do  the  same  in  all
subsequent  sections.    Be  mindful  of  using  templates;  they  are  difficult  to  edit  and  tailor  for  your  needs.

[      ]   Adhere  to  the  Basic  Resume  Rules.
    [    ]  1  Page     [    ]  ½-‐1  inch  margins   [    ]  Reverse  Chronological  Order
    [    ]  10-‐12  pt.  font   [    ]  Dates  &  Bullets  align   [    ]  Consistent  Punctuation

[      ]   Describe  Experiences  with  Relevant  Detail.
For  experiences  that  are  most  important,  describe  what  you  achieved  or  learned.  Give  these  particular
experiences  more  space  and  detail.  You  don’t  need  to  describe  everything,  but  include  descriptive
bullet(s)  for  at  least  2  experiences.  Use  strong  action  verbs  (i.e.  managed,  coordinated,  led).    Focus  on
accomplishments/transferrable  skills.    Quantify  if  you  can  (using  #,  $,  %).  See  Career  Center  Resume
Guide  for  samples.
