on implementing more read alouds in the content area of math. I would also like for 80% of the teachers to implement read alouds at least 2-4 times a week.
Action Steps ● After analyzing the results I will meet
with the grade level to discuss the results and plans for our upcoming PLC’s. ● I will share the results with the administration. ● Create a plan of action to support teachers during PLC. ● Create a timeline for implementing the selected read alouds during the 4th quarter of this school year. ● Choose specific math standards to focus on to narrow down the topics of books we will be searching for. ● Schedule an appointment with our media center specialist for support in finding appropriate children’s literature to support kindergarten math standards. ● Create an agenda for an upcoming PLC to discuss the math standards we will focus finding read alouds for. ● Work with the media center specialist to find appropriate books ● Create a database of WOW books to document the books we find and which standards they align with. ● At the following PLC share the database with the team so they know where to find the books to use when teaching the priority standards.
Timeline ● Week of 3/8-3/12: Discuss results of
the survey with the kindergarten team and administration. Schedule a appointment with the media center specialist. Decide which standards to focus our book search on. ● Week of 3/15-3/19: Begin researching books to read aloud for math. Meet with the media center specialist to continue our research. Create database to begin storing the books that we find and have them paired up with the appropriate standards. ● 3/22-3/26: Meet with the team during PLC to share the database and discuss implementation ideas. ● 3/29-end of the school year: Use books collected to read aloud 2-5 times per week during math instruction. ● 5/10-5/14: Send out another survey to the kindergarten teachers to assess how they feel about the implementation the read alouds for math. ● 5/17-5/21: Meet with the kindergarten team to discuss results of the survey.
