CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND

The word "wig" is taken from "periwig" which means long wig. The crowd of wigs in fashion als
o did not escape the French King Louis XIII. Louis XIII suffered permanent baldness when he w

as 29 years old. To cover it up, he started wearing a wig .

Wigs are heads of hair made of horsehair, human hair, wool, fur, yak hair, buffalo hair, or
synthetic materials that are worn on the head for fashion or for various aesthetic and stylistic reas
ons, including adhering to culture and religion. The word wig in English stands for periwig and fi
rst appeared in English around 1675.
Some people wear wigs to disguise the fact that they are bald; wigs can be used as a more
intrusive and less expensive alternative to hair restoration therapy. Wigs can also be used as a co
smetic accessory, sometimes in a religious context. Actors often wear wigs to better portray char
acters

CHAPTER II

EXPLANATION

How to Care for Wigs, Hair Pieces & Hair Extensions

A. Cleansing and Conditioning Wigs

Human hair wigs and synthetic hair wigs each have special needs in order to maintain
their optimal look and feel. Wigs, hair extensions & hair pieces made from human hair or
synthetic hair endure intense chemical processing during production. Prolonging that
supple movement crucial to a natural look is a must! To keep your wearable hair in tip
top shape, you must use specially formulated hair care product designed to accommodate
whichever fiber you are wearing or working with. There is no need to cleanse daily, but
there are other steps necessary before or after each wear.

B. Styling Wigs and Extensions

One of the greatest benefits of synthetic wigs is that they require very little maintenance
and do not have to be restyled after every wash. With synthetic hair you’ll want to steer
clear of intense heat -- even a short burst of heat from an oven can cause irreparable fiber
damage. If style versatility or daily styling routine is something you enjoy, human hair or
heat-friendly synthetic hair is the way to go.

C. Hydrate
While you will want to wash your wearable hair as infrequently as possible, it is critical
that you hydrate daily with leave-in conditioner. Natural hair is kept hydrated with oils
from the scalp. This, of course, does not happen with wigs or hair add-ons. These
products will also protect hair prior to any heat styling.

2
How to wash wigs!
Find tips to wash your wig like a pro and make sure you:
1. Keep your wig looking beautiful, longer
2. Avoid stretching or damaging the cap
3. Manage tangles and matting
4. Reduce shedding and frizz
5. Restore Luster

What you’ll Need

1. Folding Wig Stand
2. Wide tooth Comb
3. Synthetic or Human hair shampoo
4. Synthetic or Human hair conditioner
5. Towel

Step 1: Detangle

3
Before you wash, make sure you carefully detangle the hair using a wide tooth comb.
Start from ends and work toward the root to decrease shedding.
Step 2: Rinse

Use lukewarm water and rinse from roots to ends. Do not soak or rub as this can lead
to tangling.
Tip: If your wig is curly, try leaving the hairnet on

4
Step 3: Shampoo

Loosen shampoo in your hands and work through the hair. Distribute a small amount
of shampoo evenly throughout the hair.
Tip: Use circular motions to clean the cap.

Step 4a: Condition Synthetic Hair

5
Spray leave-in conditioner from the mid-shaft to the ends. Tip: Avoid the root or
knots.

Step 4b: Condition Human Hair

6
Leave in for a few minutes before rinsing. Do NOT apply conditioner to the root. By
applying conditioner to the roots, the product will undo the knots in the cap and cause
loss of fiber.
Tip: If dry or damaged, use a deep conditioner.

Step 5: Rinse

Let lukewarm water flow in the same direction of the hair to avoid tangling. Squeeze
and press the hair; do NOT wring.
Tip: Towel blot to remove excess water.

Step 6a: Dry Synthetic Hair

7
Air dry on a folding wig stand.   Tip: Gently part the hair with a comb before wig
dries.

Step 6b: Dry Human Hair

Blow dry about 80% and then round brush until smooth.

How to Protect and Care for a short Wig

Steps

1.

1Be gentle when combing a wig. Do not use regular brushes, and if you can, only comb it. It
doesn't need combed every day, so let it rest.
2.

9
2While you're sitting at home, take it off and put it on a wig stand. The stand will help keep
its shape and taking it off your head takes away from your own tugging and pulling hairs out.
3.

3After washing a wig, do not shake it in a towel. Be careful and dry it piece-by-piece. This
makes sure that strands of fibers don't fall off. Also, never style your wig while it's wet. Even
those wet-to-style hair stylers are known to damage your wig.
4.

10
4After saturating your wig in water, squeeze it dry. Don't wring it or the base of your wig
could become mis-shaped and dry funny.
5.

5While washing your hair, never use shampoo meant for natural hair. ''Even though normal
conditioner is OK, the shampoo is too harsh and can lead to hair falling out.
6.

11
6You can condition your hair every couple weeks or so, to keep it shiny and soft. Make sure
you don't do that every day and be sure to rinse it all out or it could lead to build-up in your wig.
7.

7Only wash your wig after wearing it 25 times. If you do this daily or even weekly, it can lead
to your wig looking less realistic and falling apart.
