Inspection Checklist for Hood Fire Suppression Systems


This checklist is an outline to assist the Fire Inspector and contractor and is not to be construed as all encompassing. It is the Fire
Inspector and contractor’s responsibility to know the applicable codes/standards and have the manufacturer’s installation manual
present during the inspection. This checklist includes some of the applicable code sections for reference.

verify that the installation meets the requirements of NFPA 17A and that no changes

The commercial hood and duct system has been inspected and approved by the

NOTE: 105.4.4 Approved documents. Construction documents approved by the fire code official are approved with the intent
that such construction documents comply in all respects with this code. Review and approval by the fire code official shall
not relieve the applicant of the responsibility of compliance with this code.

NOTE: 904.5 Wet-chemical systems. Wet-chemical extinguishing systems shall be installed, maintained, periodically inspected
and tested in accordance with NFPA 17A and their listing.

NOTE: Building Development determines whether the hood, duct and exhaust system is installed correctly.

NOTE: Each system has different restrictions and different installation manuals.

NOTE: The installation manual is the only document that can be used to verify proper detector, nozzle and system installation.

NOTE: The electrical wiring inside the control unit can impede system operation if not properly installed. Electrical connections
must be made outside the control unit. No splicing is allowed within the control unit.
