Grade 10 Orientation and M10
At MAC our Grade 10 students are welcomed the first
day in the fall with a Grade 10 Orientation. MAC has
students attending from Junior High schools across the
city and starting at a new school can be challenging.
This orientation day is a great opportunity to make new
connections and develop new friendships. During this
day students have the opportunity to learn more about
MAC, find their classes, meet their teachers and make
any necessary changes to their schedule PRIOR to the
Grade 11 and 12 students returning to class. Orientation
day supports students in their transition to high school
and gives them an opportunity to meet other members of
the MAC community before actual classes begin.
M10s (MAC 10) are randomly assigned groups of Grade 10
students who meet throughout the school year. The group
meetings encourage friendship, communication and
support for fellow students. M10 groups meet for the first
time during Grade 10 Orientation Day and periodically
thereafter to ensure students are aware of teams and
clubs they can join, how to approach exams, how to
deal with a difficult situation, and how best to approach
learning and studying while still having fun and connecting
with others. M10 groups are led by members of our Peer
Support Team and teachers who assist students in finding
their way through their first year of high school.

MacDonald Catholic High School. Reaching above and beyond the rich academic offerings of Religious Studies 15/25/35, students
find a permeation of our Catholic faith within all of their courses. With a passionate school chaplain and teachers living and teaching
through their faith, religious formation becomes a foundation for a student at MAC. From the academia of religious studies to the

Chaplain’s message
École Archbishop MacDonald Catholic High School provides a safe and vibrant community to help all
students grow in their faith. As Chaplain at MAC, I feel blessed to be able to work with the entire
school community. The staff and students at MAC eagerly accept, support and engage in all aspects
of faith permeation in our school. At the core of MAC’s faith community is our school’s chapel,
a home for inquiry, prayer and celebration. This core then splinters outwards to vibrant school
celebrations, rich religious education and most importantly, real, compassionate, and caring
relationships amongst all members of our community. We look forward to adding your
talents and passions to our community, guided and inspired by the light of Christ.

Dual
Credit
The Government of Alberta has identified education and entrepreneurship as cornerstones of a dynamic Alberta economy. The
Provincial Dual Credit Strategy contributes to, and aligns with, the Premier’s mandate and creates more opportunities for students to
earn credits in high school and post-secondary institutions at the same time. The courses offered in this vain at MAC are: Accounting
1 & 2, and Psychology 1040. All three of these courses are honoured as credits at Norquest College and may be transferable to other
post-secondary institutions. All courses have high school pre-requisites and as such are meant to be taken closer to graduation rather
than in Grade 10.

Languages
“Learning a second language is more than just a boost to your CV or handy for travelling.
It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English,” ~ Anne Merritt

Second language programs lead to tremendous opportunities in the global community. Through language learning, students experience
life experiences in other cultures. All of our language programs are offered in conjunction with International Baccalaureate Middle
Years and Diploma programmes.

Any 30 level Second Language courses are accepted

for Post-secondary registration requirements.

Students who are fluent in French, Italian, Polish, Spanish, and Tagalog can challenge the 30 level of these second languages.

Edmonton Catholic Schools will facilitate the writing of the A2 DELF (French) exam and the DELE (Spanish) exam. These official
Language Diplomas will assist students who wish to have international recognition of their language skills.
