All About Me

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by
the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed."- Booker T. Washington.

Thank you for visiting my page! After viewing my artifacts, I hope you will clearly
understand my beliefs, passions, and dedication to educating students. I am an educator
that encourages, motivates, and catapults students to dream of their unlimited
possibilities.

Over twenty-five years of working in education in various capacities, I realize that my

greater purpose in life is to get involved in reversing student achievement disparities.
Over the years, every position I have held prepared me for my next job. My knowledge and
experience date back to the time I worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional at K-5
Center Base School. At Detroit Public Schools Community District, my position taught me
a lot about the various disabilities within special education. I was more than a
paraprofessional, so I joined multiple committees that would develop me professionally. I
was determined to learn all I could. I received curriculum training, leadership training, and
training on the students' multiple disabilities.

After completing my bachelor's degree in psychology, I started a job at a residential

facility where I was the education coordinator. Within a year and a half, I became the
Director of Education. As the Director, I created systems that decreased the suspension
rate, improved academic achievement, and increased student attendance. Many of the
students at the residence experienced severe trauma, abuse, and neglect, so it was vital
for me to advocate for treatment equitably within the educational system. Working there
allowed me to understand trauma and catapult me to become trauma informed as it
relates to students. After attending the master's program at Oakland University, I became
Dean of Students as a leader; I work to bridge the gap between the community and
school in different initiatives that promote safe communities to attend school. I created a
culture and climate that promoted a positive learning environment. I serve in several
leadership roles that increase parent involvement, improve student performance and
achievement, and reduce student suspensions while actively recruiting new students.
