Timing belt: removal/installation


General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Timing belt: removal/installation

Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Raise the vehicle


Remove the front splash guard
Remove the power steering pump belt
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Removal
Air filter:
Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and timing cover
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Timing belt: removal/installation
General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Fit the crankshaft locking tool (EN-6625)

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Timing belt: removal/installation

Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the
Remove the air filter outlet
crankshaft hose(s)
pulley centre bolt
Remove thebolt
Discard the air filter housing

Remove the timing belt pulley


crankshaft upper cover

Remove the timing belt lower cover

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Lower the vehicle


Use the locking tool (EN-6340)
Remove the bolts shown
Remove the front panel

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the air filter housing
Fit the inlet camshaft locking tool (EN-6340)
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Fit the exhaust camshaft locking tool (EN-6340)
Check the marks
Timing belt: removal/installation
General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Raise the vehicle


Tension the tensioner pulley
Use an Allen key
Lock the tensioner; use a locking pin (EN-6333)

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Lower
Removethe
thevehicle
air filter housing
Remove the timing belt
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Note: Before removing, mark the direction of rotation

Installation
Fit the timing belt
Timing belt: removal/installation
Use a special tool to hold the timing belt
General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Removal
Air filter:
Fit the timing
Disconnect thebelt
air onto the crankshaft
temperature sensor gearwheel
Fit the timing
Remove belt
the air onto
filter the camshaft
outlet hose(s) gearwheels
Raise
Removethethe

air filter housing
Tension
Remove the

Use an Allen key
Remove the tensioner locking pin (EN-6333)
Timing belt: removal/installation
General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Release the tensioner pulley


Remove the crankshaft locking tool (EN-6625)
Lower the vehicle
Remove the camshaft locking tool (EN-6340)
Check the timing
Turn the engine 2 rotations by hand
Fit the inlet camshaft locking tool (EN-6340)
Fit the exhaust camshaft locking tool (EN-6340)
Removal
Check the marks
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Timing belt: removal/installation
Raise the vehicle
General

Lower the vehicle


Remove the camshaft locking tool (EN-6340)
Raise the vehicle
Refit the timing belt lower cover (6 Nm)

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Fit the crankshaft locking tool (EN-6625)


Timing belt: removal/installation
General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove
Refit the the air filter pulley
crankshaft outlet hose(s)
Remove the crankshaft
Tighten the air filter housing
pulley centre bolt
Remove thebolt(s)
use new timing belt upper cover

Stage 1: (95 Nm)


Stage 2: (45°)
Stage 3: (15°)
Timing belt: removal/installation
Remove

Refit the ancillary drive belt


Refit the power steering pump belt
Refit the front splash guard
Lower the vehicle
Refit the timing belt upper cover (6 Nm)

Removal
Air filter:
Disconnect the air temperature sensor
Remove the air filter outlet hose(s)
Refit the air filter housing
Remove the air filter housing
Refit the air filter outlet hose(s)
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Reconnect the air temperature sensor

Torque settings
Timing belt lower cover: (6 Nm)
Timing belt upper cover: (6 Nm)
Timing belt: removal/installation
Crankshaft
General pulley (new bolt):
Always
Stagecheck
1: the
(95 timing
Nm) marks before timing belt removal
Stage 2: (45°)
Stage 3: (15°)
Ancillary drive belt tensioner: (55 Nm)

Crankshaft locking tool: (EN-6625)
Camshaft locking tool: (EN-6340)
