5 (Interview)
On April 16, 2021, we had the pleasure to interview five (5) inspiring professional who
are, during the interview goes by the name of Michelle A. Nulla a grade 5 teacher, Maricar
Collamat a grade 4 teacher, Maria Glaiza a kinder teacher, Millabane, Maricel Zapanta a kinder
teacher, and Katherine I. Vosotros a kinder teacher. The purpose of this interview is to know the
teacher’s responsibilities to the state and the community as specified in the Code of Ethics of
Professional Teachers. All the information that we’ve gathered will be of great aid especially for
us future teachers. It gave us the idea on things that we should do and not do and what are the
circumstances of an academic classroom would be.
Our group conducted an interview about the code of ethics for the main basis of the
teacher’s responses. Teachers are on of the brave warriors that continue to fulfill their duties
and obligations despite this pandemic. Some of our participants highly stated that to maintain
honor and dignity through the completion of teacher’s responsibilities is to work with passion
and determination that makes it all matters possible in any kind of situation. As role models,
teachers should follow the expert code of ethics. The code of ethics for professional teachers
defines the most important duties and responsibilities toward their student’s lives. Most
importantly, teachers must demonstrate integrity, fairness, and ethics in class and their behavior
with parents and colleagues. This ensures that the teacher is doing and giving equitable,
truthful, and severe education.
The interview revealed the responsibilities of the teachers to the state and the
community as specified in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers and its importance.
During the interview, one of the teachers said that, “It is our guide as teachers and is like a Bible
that help us do the task accordingly in our classroom and as a role model in the community.”
Teachers agreed that it molded them in becoming a great teacher inside the school and a
leader in the community. Also, during the interview, teachers were asked for their response on
how to act as a community leader to the current issues that we face today about Covid-19 and
vaccination. One of the respondents mentioned that they are only the government agent that
guides people in the community about the benefits of Covid-19 vaccines and not to force
anyone in the community to get vaccinated. A teacher’s important role in today’s pandemic is to
relying and to disseminate information and help people to understand health protocols.
As a further matter, teachers admitted that they also have troubles in maintaining the
relationship with their students and the parents due to the new learning setup (modular).
However, DepEd were able to handle and found a solution with this matter by allowing teachers
on visiting the students in their home for monitoring. Along with the teacher’s constant and
pleasant relation and cooperation of the people in the community, it has been easy to follow
those mentioned in the code of ethics for professional teachers accordingly.
In their view, the code of ethics for professional teacher is like a bible to them. It provides
them with guidance and assistance that will help them complete their task accordingly and make
things possible. Teacher touches the lives of many children; it is not appropriate to instill with
their young minds the false beliefs and unrealistic learning because this will greatly affect their
growth and development. One of them believes that Article 3 clearly stipulates that they can
only release their responsibilities in the classroom, but also play role in the community. One of
the most challenges they encounter today is on how to impart values to their students for being
not around with them. As they know primary students are in the stage of knowing what is right
and wrong, yet, they are able to cover things up through communicating with their parent.
Teacher must be an approachable as they have stated.
Teachers are government agents. They share knowledge and provide people with
achievable information. Facing these controversial issues, teacher must avoid spreading fake
news about Covid-19 vaccines, but should help people open their minds and become more
active.
To maintain honor and dignity is to work with passion, if teacher have that passion, then
everything will follow. She/he will learn how to establish a boundary between their personal life
and the outside world. Although they may encounter some difficulties, they’ll still able to
complete tasks accordingly without much complaints. Teachers are one of the most influential
people in the community indeed, so it is a must for them to observe their behavior at all times
professionally.
Due to some circumstances that we are facing today, which is the pandemic, the school
that we’ve been are extremely quiet unlike before. Despite the situation we are in, we are
tremendously fortunate that the teachers there are willing to be interviews. They gave us warm
smile as we ask for their permission and time for the interview. They did not hesitate to answer
our queries and gave their ample time even though they are also busy. As for the questions,
there are some that are given ahead of time for them to be ready and there are also some
impromptu questions so that we will have a raw outcome. All in all, we are grateful for the
teachers of Malbago Elementary School for their time and willingness to be interviewed.
Briefly to conclude, as noble profession, teachers must operate with professional
standards. these set of standards are prescribed in form of ethics, and they are the reflection of
values of the teachers and their profession. So, it is reminded to all that being a professional
teacher is a serious matter. Teachers must love and embrace their profession wholeheartedly
and must be dedicated for it as it is part of their pride. Because if you are dedicated o your
profession, everything will follow and be able to complete the task accordingly despite of the
difficulties. And as we all know that their services aren’t limited inside the classroom only, it
extends to the community as well. A leader in the community must be involved when it comes to
the welfare of the people. So, every teacher must have this attitude of having an open mind
while being aware of continuous growth for betterment.
