EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Writing Utensil, Paper

DESCRIPTION: Participants will engage in mindfulness-based strategies to cope with stress in their
daily lives. The participants can use any form of writing utensil and write down the answer to the
instructors prompt.

1. Once all the participates are in the Zoom session, The organizer/Rt will ask the participants how their
day is going. If they had to overcome any barriers or problems recently. The participants will be
explained the description of the activity.
2. The organizer or RT will then inform the participants of the prompt. (Today’s: What would you do if
you woke up one day and all your problems were gone?
3. The organizer or RT then will give the participants 15mins to write out their answer to the prompt.
(optional: the RT/Organizer may play music in the background)
4. At the end of the 15 minutes the organizer/RT will give the group the ability to share what they wrote
if they feel comfortable.
5. Have the group reflect on if this activity helped them with their stress or if they feel that talking
about it would be more beneficial.

Goal 1: Participants will engage in mindfulness-based strategies to cope with stress in their daily lives.
Objective 1.1: During the session participants will identify one way that expressive writing can
be considered mindfulness.
Goal 2: Participants will gain awareness of leisure-based activities that can be integrated into their daily
lives to reduce stress.
Objective 1.2: At the conclusion of the session, participants will choose to do some form of
expressive writing for 5 minutes in the next week using mindfulness techniques.

PRIMARY INTERACTION PATTERN: The primary interaction pattern of this activity could be
considered Aggregate. It is an action where the person many be in the company of other however, it has
no effect on the outcome of the action. Each individual works solely on their own accord to complete
the task.
ADAPTATION: Adaptations for this activity could be minimal. The individuals will be writing about
what the prompt entails. For this circumstance it will be What would you do if you woke up one day
and all your problems were gone? If an adaptation was needed it could be solved using High tech
devices such as text to talk or possibly word prediction devices which only require a few letter typed.
Some Low Tech devices could include the use of writing assist or enlarging the pencil or pen so that it
is easier to grasp. Another low tech device could be using a clip board with silicone on the back to hold
the paper in place as the participant writes.

Participant: This Activity is inclusive with most disabilities with the exception of a few different
disabilities. For an individual with a bilateral amputation of the arms we could apply the use of high
tech devices such as text to talk or word diction. For an individual who has a cognitive disability we
would assist them with a hand on approach. The RT would hep the individual figure out what they
would like to say by prompting simpler questions that achieve the goals.
Theses could include:
If you didn't have to worry about anything what would you do? Why?
If you could have anything you ever wanted what would it be? Why?
What would be the one thing you would do if you could do anything? Why?
If you had all the time in the world how would you spend it? Why?
