Please consider this letter, completed application, and enclosed resume as an indication of
my interest in the Music Teacher vacancy in your School District for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Currently, I am completing my student teaching requirement and will graduate this May with a
Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate in K-12 Music.

As my resume indicates, I have experience working with children and youth spanning a
variety of ages. I believe that music education is crucial in the intellectual, creative and social
development of all students and that music education can play an integral part in the synthesis of
all academic disciplines, regardless of a student’s future in musical performance. I have worked
with two outstanding music educators through my student teaching experience and have learned a
variety of techniques to lead students to success through an integrated curriculum and positive
learning environment.

My internship with the Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission’s
workforce development program allowed me the opportunity to work with youth from a variety of
socio-economic backgrounds. This experience gave me the opportunity to discover different ways
to foster motivation in students. I also developed a better understanding of the unique challenges
that many of today’s youth face. Additionally, I was able to review professional development, time
management, and effective communication skills with the students in order to help them develop
good habits that will set them on the road to success.

I hope that this District encourages involvement in music extracurricular music-related

activities such as Show Choir and Musical Theater Performances. I have a great deal of experience
in both of these areas, and I am excited at the prospect of becoming invested in the cultural
experiences of your Music Department.
