To Whom It May Concern, It is with considerable interest that I apply for a music teaching position in your school district. In December 2013 I completed my studies at Westminster Choir College of Rider University located in Princeton, New Jersey earning a Bachelor of Music degree in music education. I also obtained the New Jersey Letter of Eligibility and I am currently undergoing the process of obtaining my New York State Teaching Certificate. At Westminster I studied the Kodly, Orff, Gordon, Dalcroze, and Critical Pedagogy approaches and methodologies for teaching music to children. I also studied choral procedures and techniques including those for young singers and adolescent boys with changing voices. As part of my studies I completed extensive practicums at the elementary and secondary levels. My student teaching was at the elementary level where I incorporated a vocal element into each of my lessons. In addition, I connected my goals to the Student Growth Objectives for the children I taught. To that end, I wrote behavioral, cognitive, experiential, and critical objectives and aligned instruction to national music education and state curriculum content standards. In addition, I adapted instruction for students with special needs and differentiated instruction to meet individual student learning styles. My student teaching was evaluated according to rubrics influenced by the Danielson framework. In January 2014, I founded a vocal music program at The Montessori School of Lindenhurst, New York. At this school, I specifically incorporated Kodly, Gordon, and Dalcroze approaches and methodologies for teaching the music. I was able to start three choirs, incorporating music from different cultures in different languages to support multiculturalism in the classroom. I also adapted instruction for students with special needs and differentiated instruction to meet individual student learning styles. I have a web portfolio displaying samples of my work in the form of documents and videos of my on-site teaching experience.
