I believe I am the perfect candidate for this position for a number of reasons.

I
have a vast amount of experience teaching music to different ages and ability
ranges, including SEN pupils. I have taught at all levels from absolute beginners
to pupils taking GCSEs A levels and degree courses. I am fully versed in the
national curriculum for music and aware of the National Plan for Music
Education, I agree that music should be available to all from a young age and
have actively been encouraging this through our youth bands and groups. I work
both in school and outside of school with the South Tyneside Music Service
where we run a Saturday Morning youth band. I also work with a local
community group, The People's Mission Silver Band; we currently have two
youth bands, juniors and beginners, and accept pupils at any age to start learning
about music.

I have throughout my career gained experience in managing departments and

budgets. At Churchill Community College I was, very early in my career given the
opportunity to manage a music department. I was responsible for all aspects of
the department from organizing the curriculum and extra curricular activities, to
managing the peripatetic staff and creating music links with the feeder primary
schools and various community hubs in the local area. At Sunderland College I
was responsible for the Music Technology courses and was part of the team that
managed internal and external verification of courses and students Assessment
Work.

Whilst working in secondary education at Mortimer Community College I have

led whole school inset sessions and been responsible for taking the lead on an
internal inset session on assessment and cross curricular links with music.

Within South Tyneside Music Service I have worked as a peripatetic brass,

percussion and recorder teacher. I have also worked with the music service
instrumental ensembles for many years and have conducted our Premier Brass
band in various events around the North East including concerts at the Sage
Gateshead.

As a Teacher I have arranged many events that pupils have taken part in. Each
year in school we put on a school show, arrange a Christmas Concert and take
part in various outreach activities in the local community and with other schools,
I am able to arrange these visits, ensure a risk assessment has taken place and
obtain the correct parental consent for the pupils taking part.

Within the Classroom I am an excellent practitioner, I actively engage pupils in

their learning and believe in music lessons the best way to learn is to take part
practically. I am able to plan my own lessons and create resources to use with
students. I frequently use IT software such as Garage band, Logic, Cubase,
Sibelius, Pro-tools and the Internet to aid students’ development in music. I am a
fully competent user of these programs and have had my own compositions
released by The Source of Gravity record label and Future Music Magazine.

Whilst teaching I have always developed myself as a teacher and a musician. I

am a professional level trumpet player and perform regularly for many groups
and ensembles in the local area. I was recently selected to audition for the role of
principal trumpet with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and although I
was unsuccessful feel this gives an idea of my playing ability.

I always strive to improve whether that be in my own performance or within the

classroom. I have always followed the CPD offered whilst working within
schools. I have taking part in CPD and have covered many areas such as Health
and safety, child protection, Team Teach, and various other topics to do with
education in general such as classroom management, assessing for learning,
dispute handling and many other training days. Whilst teaching I have also led
full school CPD. I was tasked with looking at assessment and how assessing in
music could be used whole school to improve student outcomes.

I feel this is the perfect role for myself and would relish the opportunity. I am
reliable, flexible, have great communications skills both written and verbal. I am
easy to work with and a good team member, I believe this position would give
me the chance to make a difference within the music community and improve
the music experience for those I work with.
