I am interested in applying for a music education position in your school district. I have heard excellent reports about your school system and would love to be a part of it. In May 2017 I will graduate from Northern State University with a Bachelor of Music Education in both Choral and Instrumental fields. My field experience includes elementary through high school general education, choir, and band in both rural and urban school districts including the Pierre, Aberdeen, Deubrook, Sully Buttes, and Hendricks, Minnesota. I have experience teaching instrumental lessons to middle and high school level students. These opportunities have allowed me to strengthen my one-on-one skills with students by giving them personalized instruction to help them play and understand their music on a deeper, more personal level. Teaching lessons has challenged me to be thorough, patient and most importantly, adaptable. I have also had the opportunity to work with middle and high school students as a counselor at Rushmore Music Camp. As a counselor, I not only developed similar skills to those as a lesson instructor, but I also learned to develop lesson plans through teaching a guitar class and classroom discipline. Along with my one-on-one skills, I have experience teaching as a Supplemental Instructor of Music History at Northern State University. This opportunity gave me supervision and classroom management skills that I hope to translate into my own classroom. These necessary skills will be a much needed tool for me as a teacher to help my students stay on task and learn to their best ability. Being an Orientation Leader at Northern taught me communication skills with meeting new people such as my fellow leaders, freshmen, parents, and leader above me. Giving instruction to incoming music majors gave me skills sharing what Ive learned through my experience with those that are experiencing something new for the first time. The knowledge that I gained through these experiences will aid me immensely with meeting new students and their parents as well as teaching in my classroom. I hope to achieve my goal of incorporating all of my different college experiences and my desire to be an informative, intelligent, and enthusiastic teacher into my own classroom that would positively contribute to the already high standard of your school district. I look forward to hearing from you and I am available at any time to visit your district for an in-person interview. Sincerely,
