Instructional Activity 5
8. Modeling an activity
For Instructional Activity 5 I helped my lead teacher model a review activity that I came
up with on Monday March 1st. It consists of a Virtual Museum the students can navigate. The
museum consists of four rooms, one for each module. Each room contains three different
resources (videos, graphic organizers, passages) that the students will use to answer the questions
in a Google Form provided to them during the introduction to the activity. The form will serve as
attendance and grade for the students. This activity, that will most likely take up the entirety of
the period, is meant to be a review of Unit 2. Miss Joyce, Miss Dong (another intern), and I will
split the class in three breakout rooms where we will be available to answer questions and
provide assistance.
Among the pedagogical skills required for this activity was knowledge of the content, it
is important to know the material you are teaching in order to successfully deliver it to students.
Lesson planning was also very important as we had to keep in mind the objective of the activity,
how we were going to carry it out, what we had to do, what our students had to do, and how it
doesn’t cease to surprise me how much we have to learn from the online setting. The way
students react and the type of help they need depending on the activity is ever changing. I am
looking forward to seeing how our idea of dividing the classroom in three groups will work. I
have as light suspicion working in smaller groups is a better idea, but we will figure it out on
Monday. I also want to see the types of questions students will ask and whether or not they will
Something that I think went really well with this lesson is the fact that my lead teacher
liked the activity that I proposed. Based on our students and their needs this semester, I the
Virtual Museum will be a success as it will offer students differentiated instruction through the
different resources, we will offer them. The fact that the assignment is multimodal provides
students with more options to explore the way they learn best. A challenge regarding that might
pop up is that students have to much trouble navigating through the resources provided and
answering the questions on the form. I don’t think it will be too complicated for them to do so,
and we will be there to provide assistance, but it still is kind of nerve wracking.
I learned so much with this activity. First of all I am very proud to have suggested
something and that my lead teacher liked the idea so much that she integrated it into the
classroom, said she was going to share it with her colleagues, and that she will continue to use it
in the future. Having meetings with her during the week to talk about our progress and plan how
we wanted to handle it in the classroom was amazing. It helped me visualize what working with
other teachers in the future will be like. Having a shared goal of setting students up for success
