My Creation
I have created a blog through the website WordPress. I created this blog to showcase
the different units and topics I have completed during my education at Harris
Academy. My blog is a personal media profile because it only features work I have
made myself and products that have created. I chose a blog because it is free to use
and I am able to update my blog whenever I want at any time.

Content
On my blog I have featured every topic/unit I have studied in the past two years and
included content that will showcase my media talents. I have a firm understanding and
experiences in journalism, creating a media product, comics, pitching a product to a
client, photography, advertising, interactive media products and having a personal
media profile. These topics have widened my overall knowledge of the media and the
types of work that is involved. I also have different products such as a comic book, a
sports promotional video, a news article and a fully functioning website that I have
created. I have this content featured because I will be able to have an online portfolio
that I can show to potential employers.

Benefits and Opportunities

Creating a blog to showcase my talents is beneficial because my work can be seen by
many people, including potential employers and clients, at one time. Also a blog is
free and I am able to use many different features without having to worry about
paying a lot of money. A blog is also easier and quicker to navigate in comparison to
other personal media profiles such as CVs. With a blog you can have each topic on a
different page in the menu which is easier to locate. If I had uses paper it would have
been way too long and no employer or potential client is going to want to go through
the hassle and stress of going through so much paper, it is unprofessional. I am
hoping that my blog will be looked into by many different professionals in the media
sector and they can reach out to me for employment or collaborations.

Limitations
Making a blog is a very time consuming task especially if you want it to look
professional and want it to look visually appealing. Having to pick colour schemes,
choose what headings will be present and having to upload the entire work can often
be tiring. Even though I was able to use my blog efficiently and it met all my needs, if
I had even more content to upload it would be hard because WordPress has a
premium feature that you have to pay for which will give you access to all areas of the
blog. For example I couldn’t upload videos straight onto the blog post without having
to pay a subscription so I had to add my video to the video-sharing site Vimeo and
then hyperlink it to the blog.

My blog is available on both desktop and mobile phones through having a Wi-Fi
connection. My blog is also available to those who have the WordPress app which is
available for people with both Apple and Android devices. I had one limitation with
using the app and the design layout for phones and tablets. Because phones and
tablets have a smaller screen I had to take into consideration image quality, video
sharpness and text size. I made sure to make the text and imagery is large enough for
the audience to see.

Re-purposed product:

I took a screenshot from my advertising video and turned it into a poster. I added the
M&S logo handles, usernames for the different social media pages and a slogan. I
repurposed my product into a new one because it is can promote the advertising
campaign further and expand my target audience. I could have used some of my
footage from my advert to create a banner format.

Future
I will frequently update my blog as I come up with more ideas and produce more
content. I don’t want to lose the connection that I have with my audience so I will
make sure to further develop and upgrade my blog. I will be going to university to
study Media & Communications and as I complete my studies in university I may
choose to update my blog with the skills I learn there.
