What were the best and worst parts of the Senior Project/Senior Seminar?

The worst part of my senior project is having Covid myself and not being able to work in the
kitchen for about one month. I could not work because I had a bad cough. The best part of my
senior project is serving food and saying hello to the kids when they came through the serving
line.

List three things you may now know after completing your senior project.
Food safety is very important when working in the kitchen.
Time goes very fast because I am busy working doing various jobs.
When I first started working in the kitchen, it was hard to remember that I needed to be ready
with the fruit to serve to the next person. I learned to think ahead.

Which aspect of the Senior Project/Senior Seminar stretched you the most?
How did you feel about and react to this challenge?
Having to do a presentation in front of the class, I felt nervous and would talk extremely fast.
People found it hard to understand what I was saying. I had to remind myself to slow down and
speak clearly. The more I presented with different presentations, the easier it got every time I did
it. I had no idea what it was like to work in a kitchen that serves food to the public. My project
was a stretch for me.

How has the Senior Project/Senior Seminar changed you (skills, attitudes, work habits,
capabilities, confidence, poise, presentation, etc.)?
I realized that working in the kitchen is something I really want to do. I realized how time
management is very important when working in the kitchen. When I first started, I was very
nervous and did not know what to expect. I became confident the more I worked in the kitchen. I
knew that I needed to wash my hands, put gloves on and get in line to serve the fruit.

How has this experience influenced your future plans?

This experience helped me by realizing what I want to do for my future plans of working in a
restaurant.

What would you do differently if you had to do the whole Senior Project/Senior Seminar
process again?
I would try to find more time to learn about food prep, knowing how much food to prepare. I did
not get to see what they do in the kitchen, after they are done serving for the day. What they do
to prepare for the next day, or where they order the food from to serve at the school.

What kind of advice do you have for next year’s seniors?

Really know what you want to do for the Senior Project. Do not procrastinate. If you do, you fall
behind on your work and you will have a hard time catching up. It is okay to ask for help if you
need it.
What grade would you give yourself for your Senior Project and what justifications do
you have for that grade?
I would get an A because I am willing to learn and try new things. Misty Langley, my mentor,
taught me new things and I accomplished them. Working in the kitchen is a little bit easier now. I
did make mistakes and had to redo them. I took on a project that I had to learn about. I have
never worked anywhere before serving food to the public.
