Dear Parents,

Stationery Contribution: Thank you to all those parents who have paid their Stationery
Contribution over the past few weeks. If you haven’t paid yet you can still do so.

Covid News: Thank you to all our parents and pupils for your great cooperation in keeping to
our Covid protocols.
It is important that children/staff don’t come to school if they have a cough or respiratory
illness of any kind. And, of course, if you’ve had to give your child medication in the
morning then they shouldn’t come to school that day.
As always, our school will do its best to follow all the guidelines laid down by the HSE and
the Department of Education and we are grateful for the support of our school community in
‘keeping the virus outside the gate’.

Homework: We are very fortunate to have a brilliant After School Club on the premises.
Sometimes, the children can use their time in the After School Club to complete some of their
homework. However, it is very important that parents check their children’s homework each
evening so you can stay up to date with your child’s progress in all the subjects and also
ensure that your child is giving their best effort when completing homework.

Reading: As a school we place great value in reading. Children go home with reading or
words most evenings. We are asking parents to take time each night to listen to their children
reading. This goes for all classes, even the bigger children in Fifth and Sixth will benefit
from the opportunity to read aloud to an adult each evening. It is sad to ask a child what their
parents thought of a story only for the child to say they read it on their own.
Reading can be, if we make the effort, quality time with our children. It would be lovely to
think that each child in our school would get to spend a few minutes each night reading to a
parent. Reading aloud to a parent can help the child’s self-esteem and self-confidence as well
as helping their reading and comprehension skills. I think the quote below says it better than I
can: Reading with our children should be a treat not a chore!

Yours sincerely,
