Photojournalism with Kelly Glasscock

MILWAUKEE, WI. - Kelly Glasscock is currently the executive director of the Journalism

Education Association and will be teaching the photojournalism class this year at KEMPA.

Photojournalism is the art of learning a language that transcends cultures. To

communicate using the language of light, kampers will need to bring cameras to practice with for

this class.

During this class, you will explore the theories behind great photography, you’ll laugh

and cry as we experience photographs at the top level, and explore how to translate what we

learn to practical techniques to full harness the power of your camera and creativity.

During kamp, students may act as the kamp’s photographers for the week and have their

photos used to document the kamp experience. It will be useful for you to bring a point and shoot

or DSLR camera with manual controls and a card reader for this class.

Glasscock takes pride in his work as has been published in Sports Illustrated, Time

Magazine, USA Today, The Seattle Times, and among many more prominent regional

publications. He still carries his camera everywhere he goes, he also encourages his students to

do this.

From the moment you leave your house on the way to KEMPA, you’re first assignment

starts. Start taking photos and don’t stop, photograph your surroundings every morning, every

evening and throughout the day. Tell the story of your experience coming to KEMPA.

Glasscock is extremely excited to be joining the KEMPA team and cannot wait to start

teaching photography in a way that transcends cultures.
