2. review of Mr. T.

Zulfikar’s article

This article is about a reflexive and qualitative inquiry on his English as a Foreign Language
(EFL) learning and teaching experience. It is an autoethnography, in which his reflect on his own
learning and teaching experience for the improvement of his teaching competent.

He learned English for the first time when he studied in boarding school. Although learning
English at that time was difficult for him, however, constant and intense exposure to language
increases his passion for learning it. teaching style is one of the most important factors (Kazemi
& Khalili Sabet, 2012). While studying, his teacher's teaching style appeals to him. Most of them
develop good relationships with their students, build relationships and trust. Trust is considered
important in learning process because it promotes continuous learning (Vahdany, Sabouri, &
Ghafarnian, 2015). However, as a novice student at the time, he was not informed of his teacher's
teaching methods.

Here is steps and stages of Mr. T. Zulfikar’s English learning :

1. Learning English language as a foreign language for the first time was in boarding
school.
2. Learning grammar explicitly and through translation into the first language (L1) in the
class.
3. Practicing the language in informal and formal settings at boarding school.
4. guessing a word based on its description by his speaking partner.
5. Vocabularies memorization as daily routines.
6. teaching a foreign language should use multiple strategies.
7. Being a positif side of student when learn English learning.

Here is steps and stages of Mr. T. Zulfikar’s English teaching :

1. became as teaching assistant responsible for teaching English speaking skills when was
eighth grader.
2. As a student, he experienced positive interactions with his teachers who effectively used
the instructional process.
3. He believes that facilitating students to engage in active learning in a conducive
classroom environment is important.
4. Spending four years learning the art and craft of teaching to shape my teaching
competence.
5. Became as an English instructor in a private English school.
6. He learned to reflect on appropriate learning and teaching strategies at the school.
- This is relevant to Flores and Day’s suggest that prior experience “plays a strong
mediating role in the identities which new teachers brought into their school teaching
experience” (2006, p. 223).
7. His experience as a student also significantly informed and shaped my classroom
practices.
8. teaching in a real classroom with students from many different backgrounds was a
complex experience for beginning teachers like himself (Maistre & Parȇ, 2010).
Numerous factors such as : motivation, attitude, planning, and transference need to be
considered and addressed.
9. boosting students’ self-efficacy should be a priority during the instructional process
10. increasing his students’ motivation and challenging their language learning attitudes.
11. realized that planning the lesson well was one of the central components of effective
teaching.

My Insight of the conclusion of the whole Mr. T. Zulfikar’s article :

In the department of EFL education, English was also used as a tool of interaction among
students and teaching staff. He studied the four skills, reading, writing, listening, and speaking,
as well as grammar separately. However, the lecturers used English as the medium of instruction
and, as a result, he was always exposed to spoken skills, and this improved his speaking
competence. This article has shown the importance of reflective practice to help practitioners’
awareness of their practices. As he reflected on, in and for his practices in this article, he has
recounted his learning during his earlier years of learning and teaching English. he has also
explored his learning-teaching journeys. These journeys have shifted his teaching and
professional philosophies, in which he has defined and redefined language instruction. In
reflecting on these experiences, he recognizes that he has learnt, and continue to refine, three
important components in my teaching. Firstly, English should be taught in an integrated way,
with all four skills emphasized. Secondly, a well-developed lesson plan is central to effective
teaching. Finally, a healthy teachers-students relationship is one of the most significant factors
for successful learning.
