Activities at Ecotourism Destination: Activities identified and developed should be site specific.

The
feasible activities include nature camps and eco-friendly accommodation through which they could
experience the nature. The infrastructure should fulfill the prescribed quality standards. The
identified activities include- Trekking & Nature Walks, Wildlife Viewing and River cruise, Adventure
Sports, Herbal Ecotourism, Interpretation centers, conservation education and other facilities.

Capacity Building: The capacity building of local communities and government, the local
communities near the destination will manage the facilities and activities in a professional manner.
This process of strengthening the community will be carried out by training the selected members
by reputed institutions or NGOs and taking them to study tours in different areas in the country
where local communities are managing such activities. The training is needed in areas like cooking,
bakery, & confectionary, housekeeping, tour guide and account keeping. The forest department
personnel shall also undertake study tours to participate in ecotourism activities apart from their
regular job of protection, conservation, & management of forests.

Setting standards & Quality Benchmarks: The best practices guidelines, codes, standards, audits,
accreditations schemes and models will be prepared and promoted.

Extension & Publicity: The various services available may not be known to the general public. So,
promotion of ecotourism shall be done through circuit approach e.g. Tiger Circuit, Wetland circuit
etc. A website shall be established to promote marketing and coordination of ecotourism, wherein
the concept of ecotourism will be publicized. Highlight on special values to attract potential visitors,
information regarding facilities and a transparent audit of ecotourism enterprises. Brochures,
souvenir shops, signage, linkages with state and national tourism department & with tour operators,
hoteliers regulated and organized corporate media will be developed. Brand ambassador for UP
Ecotourism and logo will be developed, networking with all stakeholders to create coordination
mechanism at local, state and national level; technical cooperation with national and international
agencies having expertise in ecotourism will be encouraged without compromising the local interest.

Destination outputs: A successful ecotourism shall reflect increase in use of renewable energy and
biodegradable resources; management of ecotourism is being done by registered societies-
comprising Eco development Committees/ Joint Forest management committees; activities of
experiential in nature & adoption of ecofriendly waste disposal methods.

Financial management: The availability of finances is essential in various activities like infrastructure
facilities, feasible activities, capacity building, setting benchmark standards, publicity and various
other activities. There will be efforts to make resources available from outlay of administrative
department of state budget and from ongoing schemes of government of India. Forest Corporation,
partnership of private institutions under social corporate responsibility. Steps will be taken to make
revolving fund from the income of ecotourism with the help of forest department. Steps shall be to
deposit 10% of income in revolving fund from the income of participating private institutions on
mutual agreement.
