Learning-and-Development-Stand/ELDS-ATL.pdf.aspx

Instructional objectives: list 2- 3 observable/measurable objectives for this lesson. Use precise language w/ action verbs.
The student will:
1. develop peer interactions and relationships by interacting in more complex play including
the planning, roles and cooperation while storytelling and playing charades with
classmates.

2. explore more inventive social play by acting out specific animal characteristics while doing
animal charades.

3.

Experience(s): Describe authentic (real life, hands-on not representational) materials and enticing/ creative experiences in
which children are actively engaged. Include a step-by-step walk through of the experience. Experiences will encourage
experimentation, use of creativity, problem solving and language development. Experiences will directly relate to the learning
objectives and ELDS. How will the experience(s) inform you on the children’s prior knowledge and interest in the topic? How
will you ensure your learning objectives and assessment strategies align?

Materials: Safe outside place to explore (a park, animal reserve, or outside area during recess), charade
animal cards, props, a “stage” for performance, permission slips

Step-by-step Method:
1. Explain to students that their job is to become experts on animals
2. Set a certain day or time to allow students to explore the animals they see or find outside
a. If you plan to go off campus, such as a park, send out permission slips to be returned a
week before trip
b. Include possible weather conditions and appropriate weather for location
3. After students return to the classroom, explain that now they are going to have a chance to act
like the animals they saw
4. The students can either act by themselves or with a small group/pair
5. Students will take turns picking from the animal cards
6. If there is just one animal on the card, students must act out characteristics of that animal
a. Sound it makes, walk/movement, where they live, or what they eat, etc.
7. If there is more than one animal on the card, have students act out all animals in a “story”
a. This means if the animals were all together, how would they act around each other
b. “Would they be friends or would they be fighting? What would they be eating or doing?”

Questions:
How will the experience(s) inform you on the children’s prior knowledge and interest in the topic?
How will you ensure your learning objectives and assessment strategies align?

- The experience will inform me on the children’s prior knowledge with how they can interact with
others and develop strong relationships and how they interact in inventive social play.
- I will ensure that my learning objectives and assessment strategies align my using informal
assessment so that students can develop their language skills and self-expression.

Assessment of student learning:

1. Data to be collected- Qualitative: language, self-expression, cooperation

2. Method used to record/aggregate data- Observation, pictures, videos

3. Interpretation of assessment data- Informal/Formative assessment
