Amalka Giraffe

The original pattern is from Hana Prokopy www.facebook.com/hana.prokopy

Changes made to i.a. the head, neck, ears, eyes created by Hippe Haaksels.
In addition to these changes in this pattern we are working with a copper wire
frame so the giraffe can stand and can move in all sorts of poses. If you have
questions or need help please feel free to send me a message.

Materials and Tools
You can make the giraffe with any yarn. Size depends on yarn and hook used.
The materials I used for this giraffe are:
- 2 mm
- Alize cotton gold
- Fiberfill
- 2 safety eyes 10mm
- Solid Copper wire ( if you use the same yarn or cotton you will need 3 pieces of 75 cm )
- Insulation tape to put around the end of the wires to prevent it from sticking through
the yarn

Neck (4x)
With the balls for the neck you can choose to put them on the wire below the head and
crochet around the wire but you can also stick them on a knitting needle so you can
easily thread the balls on the wire. Leave a piece of yarn to every ball to sew with a few
stitches to the next ball.

Stick the balls on a knitting needle to thread them to the wire later on

This is a little bit tricky. Wire 1 is already attached to the head and neck
Wire 2 and 3 will be bend while we are working so it will be a solid frame.
A layout of how the frame will be inside the giraffe.

Take a top and a bottom of a foot and start crocheting them together with sc. When you
are about half way take wire 2 en put it through the top of the foot and bend it like the
picture below. Don’t forget to put insulation tape around the ends and the connecting
parts.
Stuff the foot and finish crocheting to close the foot
Thread three balls on top of the foot. Sew all the balls to each other with a few stitches
and the bottom ball to the foot.

Now we are gonna crochet the first part of the body together around the wire.
Take two parts and crochet with 10 sc together. Thread both parts on wire 1 under de
balls of the neck. You put the wire through the top and then bend it side ways to go
through the middle of the other part. Now make 20 sc.
Take wire 2 with the foot en the leg. Make a little loop around wire 1 (sqeeze the loop
with a pair of pliers so there is a firm connection )
Crochet the next 20sc together. Wire 2 will come out of the body here. Stuff and sc the
last 10 stitches.
Thread 3 balls from the legg and the top of the foot. Bend the wire like the other side.
Stuff the foot and sc the top to the bottom.

Take the next 2 parts of the body and sc them togehter. Thread them behind the 1 part.
The last part is almost similair to the first part ( we are missing the neck here)
Make the foot and leg like you before with wire 3. Take the last 2 parts from the body
and single crochet them together with 20 stitches. Make a loop with wire 3 around wire
1 (again, flatten the loop with pliers). Now you dont need wire 1 anymore. Cut it and put
insulation tape around it. 20 more single crochet through both parts of the body, this is
where wire 3 will come out again . Single crochet the last 20 stithes and finish the leg.

For the tail of the giraffe I used different lengths and different sizes of balls. Ofcourse you
can make any size you like.

Chain the length you want and go back the chain with slipstitches.

Balls fort he tail (4x)

5. 24sc
6. 24sc
7. (2sc, 1dec) 6x (18)
8. (1sc, 1dec) 6x (12)
9. (dec) 6x (6)
