Discussion Post-2

Introduction

Data Entry can be defined as the systematic process of inputting and making entry of raw data
collected from different sources to different system software for the purpose of processing,
manipulating and transforming the data into meaningful desired output (Hair, Celsi, Ortinau, &
Bush, 2017).

Process of Data Entry

Data entry follows a series of process from collection to end entry and inputting and coding the
data.

Following are the major process of Data Entry:

Collection of Data

The data entry process starts by collecting raw data and information from different primary and
secondary sources. Different raw data are collected before assorting and organizing.

Validation of Data:

After making prior collection of data and information, the collected data and information needs
to be validated ensuring its credibility and validity. It aids in making the data more consistent
and prospecting the accuracy of data.

Editing of Data:

This process involves making prior editing of data as per requirements. This process involves
any modification or adjustment of data. It supports in making proper quality control of collected
data and information. Editing can be done using different tools like Grammarly, Data Analyzer,
STATA etc.

Coding of Data:
This is the most important process of data entry. It is making actual coding of data and
information giving input with certain codes that are easily understood by company application
tools. This process involves inputting the response with different codes as per requirement of
application tools. The codes in the form of numbers or symbols represents each response and
further transformed for making prior analysis of data and presentatio n  (Mitchel, et al., 2011).. The
codes are transmitted into different data analysis and entry tools and computer application
system for further analysis and presentation of data. Data Entry software includes: SPSS, Excel,
STATA, SIS, python etc.

Discussion on changes in technology that have simplified this procedure.

With the development of automated Application system, Artificial Intelligence and innovative
data analysis tools and software, the data entry and analysis of inputted data has been made lot
reliable and easier. For Instance: SPSS, STATA, Excel, Nvivo, SMART PLS, CATI etc has
made the data entry work more reliable and valid. With the aid of artificial intelligence and other
scanning technology, the computers and its application system can read any form of text,
numbers or symbols or any other codes which represent each response of data and information
and aid in making prior analysis of data and presentation. Further, use of google docs for
collecting survey and online analysis and entry of data has been made the procedure more
simplified and flexible. The advancement in system software has made the data entry work more
simpler and faster reducing cost of manual entry of data, time and effort of manual entry. The
use of BCR and MICR for recognizing the ink and character without entry of data also has been
emerging but since has not much been used by the researcher. The concept of scanning
technology has been used by many researchers as of now.

For Example: The learning outcomes from the course session facilitated by Dr. Sajeeb K.
Shrestha in using different qualitative and quantitative data analysis tools has made the data entry
and analysis work easier. Through use of SPSS and NVIVO tool, we are able to making prior
entry of data and analysis of data collected from online survey like using google docs.
