Mientras los adjetivos se refieren a los nombres, los adverbios en inglés se utilizan
para describir verbos, adjetivos u otros adverbios.
¿Como construir un adverbio en inglés?
Elige un adjetivo y añádele -ly al final (que sería el equivalente al -mente del español).
Los adverbios en inglés son invariables.
¿Cuál es la posición de los adverbios en una frase?
La regla es la misma que para los adjetivos en inglés. Los adverbios se colocan detrás
de los verbos y delante de los adjetivos, participios pasados u otros adverbios. Ejemplos
de adverbios en inglés:
▪ This pasta is badly cooked > Esta pasta está mal cocida (el adverbio se
coloca delante del participio pasado)
▪ It is raining heavily > Está lloviendo fuerte (el adverbio se coloca detrás del
verbo)
Las excepciones
▪ Algunos de los adjetivos que acaban en -ly no pueden utilizarse como
adverbios (por ejemplo: friendly)
▪ Algunas palabras pueden tener la función de adverbio y adjetivo. Como por
ejemplo la palabra daily:
▪ It is a daily newspaper > Es un periódico diario> ADJETIVO
▪ It rains daily in the city > En esta ciudad llueve diariamente >
ADVERBIO
▪ Algunos adjetivos pueden ser adverbios:
▪ It is hard work > Es un trabajo duro > ADJETIVO
▪ She works hard > Ella trabaja duramente > ADVERBIO
De acuerdo a lo anterior de los adjetivos y adverbios en inglés:
1. Los adjetivos en inglés no concuerdan con el nombre
2. Los adjetivos siempre se colocan después del verbo o delante del nombre
3. Los adverbios en inglés son invariables
4. Los adverbios se colocan después del verbo y antes del participio pasado, de
los adjetivos y de otros adverbios.
