Question 1.

(a) Show that the minimum distance between an object and its image, formed by a thin lense, is 4f where f

is its focal length. Where should the object be placed to get this condition? I need your theoretical

calculations to support your answer. Remember you do not need to draw any figures, just you need to

recall the formulas you studied during the class and calculate the resultant condition. (10)
(b) A glass cube as shown in the figure below has a refractive index of 1.5. A light ray enters the top face

as shown and strikes the side of the cube. Will this light emerge from this side? Explain your answer

in detail. (5)
