Noam Chomsky in his article elaborates the exposition of true state of affairs by coronavirus pandemic of powerful

countries like USA and goes on to compare the failure of US government to handle the pandemic through scientific
means with that of Pakistan which is entirely untrue as although Pakistani Government lacks in numerous areas
such as focus on science, it has succeeded in controlling the virus due to which the comparison with Trump
administration is totally unfair. The comparison by large is unfair as where the Trump administration stripped USA
of its Presidential Scientific Advisory Board (PSAC), the developing nations such as Pakistan used their resources for
controlling the virus.

The capitalistic approach of Pharma industry which focuses on numbers and profits coupled with the neo-liberal
approach which proposes “a state of anarchy and no world government” has led resourceful countries to collapse
in front of this virus as in this system, a solution is sold for the problem when it has a certain level of impact on the
profits otherwise it is believed not to be cost effective. This flaw in capitalism and the approach being followed by
the governments can be summed up in the words of Vladimir Lenin “The Capitalists will sell us the rope with
which we will hang them” which means that this system will collapse due to its own fundamental principles.

Second crisis being discussed of nuclear war which was articulated due to the famous Doomsday Clock is a long
shot as with such crippling crises already having effects on countries, have left them cash strapped to start a war.
This might have been a concern at the start of the year 2020 when India and Pakistan came face to face but it was
a known fact that two countries would only involve in a limited skirmish as both countries have a lot to lose and
with Pakistan’s state organs having a cool head , this was not going to happen.

The worrisome crisis global warming is a real one. This impending danger of continuous climate change having
catastrophic results could have been slowed down or controlled if all countries were at same page but Head of
State of the mightiest country in the world, Mr. Trump himself does not believe in climate change. This makes this
crisis much more dangerous and a potential disaster for the years ahead as USA being the biggest economy and a
super power has influence on the policies being developed in wake of this looming danger.

According to the writer, a very fundamental and pivotal crisis is of deterioration democracy, as all these problems
could have been avoided or controlled if “will of the people” was implemented and exercised. This can be argued
upon as “true democracy” works hand in hand with “Cognizant Populace” which is not the case in many
developing countries. In developing countries a few have to take decisions for the many as the majority is not
mature enough to think for their own betterment. The democracy could have saved us from these crises if it were
implemented in true spirit in the developed countries themselves but in developing countries a different approach
is needed which can be termed as “herding”.
