Short discussion

From the gathered data, the researchers categorized the data into five themes: stimulus,
reinforcing values, conditioned response, decoding through schema, and ______. The first theme is
stimulus which are visual media that includes memes and videos posted on different social media
platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. During the pandemic, the primary visual media
the participants noticed was the surge of memes, specifically pandemic related memes. Selection 9
emerge about dun and yeah, nakakatuwa naman. Selection 5 also added, mostly memes and then
‘yong ah literature memes na focus more on comedy so they make a joke out of staying at home all the
time and then ‘yong they joke about pandemic being they can’t go outside. They also mentioned the
emergence of video-related trends, including funny clips and creative commercials. Selection 6
Furthermore, selection 3
also mentioned, famous one of all is the current RC cola commercial
The theme of reinforcing value summarizes the overall impact of the humorous surfacing
trends. There are diverse reasons for how these trends affect the selections but they all root from
their desire to overcome their current situation. Some participants perceive them as a coping
strategy that distracts them from their situation. As selection 4 mentioned, it gives me
entertainment … it kinda distracts me from reality. On the other hand, some find them as a source of
entertainment and a stress reliever that radiates good vibes and elicits laughter despite pandemic.
As selection 10 claimed, parang one of my stress relievers when I’m to overwhelmed of doing my
assignments when I’m feeling overstressed from the overload requirements. I would watch these
videos to calm myself, ganun. Para mag-reset sya. Para mabawasan yung stress. Selection 8
furthermore mentioned that, so I feel relaxed I really feel relaxed and feel less stress despite this
pandemic at least kasi may mga pang pa-good vibes.
The third theme is the conditioned response, defined as the immediate reaction upon
encountering the different trends. The immediate reaction includes sharing, reacting, and laughing
at the stimulus. The researchers found out that selections often react to the stimulus by giving a
heart or a like to these trends to show appreciation to the post's creator. They also share these
memes to their timeline or via messenger to make their friends and loved ones happy. Selection 5
stated, leave a heart so you can like it as well is to show appreciation to the original na author or to
the original na poster. Also, selection 7 also stated that, usually po kapag natatawa po sa shineshare
ngayon. As reflected from the selections' statement, the researchers conclude that the initial
response to the humorous trends is positive and redirected towards the family and friends to
radiate further and spread good vibes to help others cope with the situation.
The fourth theme is decoding through one's schema, where the selections try to make sense
and find humor in the different trends. In the course of memes, the participants have diverse ways
of understanding the meme's context, yet generally, they understand memes through their
experiences, humor style, and interests that generally revolve around the person. Most of the
participants understand humorous trends that are related to humor style selection 8 mentioned,
then sometimes parang pessimistic so I understand kasi sometimes memes are considered to be a
medyo dark humor in addition Selection 1 said that, naiintindihan dahil nararanasan ko rin siya
yung the fact na I'm a student too that's why I can relate and I guess yung generation din we're GenZ
right?
Mama. Se;ection 4 also added, I understand them because of my prior knowledge to.. stuff and
understanding some vague, understanding the vague and mysterious concept of the internet, and
the wild humor it has. Despite being unique individuals, it is evident that people share a common
experience that makes these humorous trends funny and relatable. The researchers found that to
make sense of a humorous trend, one must have a background with the meaning of the meme, and
this context usually comes from the person's schema. Furthermore, mediums, such as the internet
and social networking sites, facilitate understanding memes such as Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit.
In the current situation, mediums help circulate the trends that help
people to find solace and break.
The first four themes revolved around the intrapersonal aspect of the humorous trends. In
contrast, researchers found a surfacing theme that focuses on the humorous trends concerning the
interpersonal dimension. ___ is defined as the process of sharing or extending the impact of the new
humorous trends to the interpersonal dimension. Base on the data, the researchers posited that the
trends have a utilitarian purpose wherein aside from feeling good after being entertained with the
content, they also share them with other people to experience the same feeling that felt upon
encountering the trend. Selection 1 mentioned, gusto kong ipasa sa kanila so that they to will be
able to feel what I felt gusto kong ipasa sa kanila so that they too will be able to feel what I felt.
Selection 5 also mentioned, …when I share it naman it's like paying forward the post so parang it
made me happy I'll share it para someone else will made happy by it. Aside from providing and
spreading laughter, most selections use these trends to create small community where the socialize
with their friends. Selection 6 said that, nagkakaroon ng development within my social circle. Parang
wala naman kaming ibang means to socialize, di naman pwedeng face to face di ba so thru facebook,
thru messenger. Moreover, researchers acknowledged that the selections indirectly use these trends
to socialize with friends in order to cope and to relate with their friends during the pandemic.
Selection 1 mentioned, I want us to ano kasi alam kong madami pang sa group of friends ko na in
denial tapos hindi pa gaano nakaka-adjust so uhmm kaya ko siya shinashare para para uhmm to
yung alam mo yung to lighten up the atmosphere. Selection 3 claimed that, for me its ah mostly for
my need to socialize, and I think it’s because uhm.. if we’re left like in isolation for too long we could
develop uhm.. certain behaviors and thinking like developing sadness and loneliness. ((((((NAGIISIP
