How to Install an aftermarket Head Unit into a 2016+ Hyundai Tucson

Tools Needed:
1. Plastic Interior Trim Removal Tools
2. Wire cutter/Stripper
3. Soldering Iron
4. Shrink Tubing (better) or Electrical Tape.
5. (Optional) Spray Paint and Primer for Bezel
6. Philips Screw Driver
7. 1-1/8” Hole Saw for USB Bulkhead

Parts Needed:
1. Head Unit (Pioneer 4200NEX in this example)
2. Metra 95-7369B Dash Kit Bezel
3. (2) Metra 70-7304 Wire harnesses
4. PAC CAM TY11 or AX-TOYCAM1 Harness for Toyota backup camera
5. Axxess AX-CAM6V regulator for Backup Camera
6. Metra AWSC1 Steering Wheel Control Module
7. Dual USB Bulkhead
8. (Optional) MicroBypass for certain head Units

Notes:
1. You will lose factory USB connector and in dash audio information. In the future the
Maestro RR may solve that.
2. Modifications aren’t permanent except for USB bulkhead connector. No factory wires
are spliced or cut.
Step 1 Trim Removal:
1. Use plastic pry tool
to pull top dash
cover towards the
rear of the car.

2. Once the first few

clips “pop”, then work your
way around popping the
clips to pull the dash cover
towards the rear of the car.
The cover should just slide
off eventually.
3. Remove 3 philips
head screws
holding the radio
cover in place. The
cover also has clips,
so pry gently
starting at the top
and working your
way around.

4. Remove the 4 philips screws holding the radio in place, pull it out and remove the 3
plugs, antenna and sat antenna.
5. Pull your armrest up and pry on the front side of the cubby to lift up the cup holders
section of the center console. Make sure your parking brake is on and move the shifter
to the drive position and rotate the bezel about the shift. Pull up on the front cubby
which houses the
cigarette adapters
and remove it from
the vehicle.
6. Remove 2 screws from each air vent. Then gently pry on tabs and pull to remove the air
vents. It helps to have a second set of hands and screw drivers to do this.

Step 2 Make Wire Harness:

1. Grind down a spare small screw driver so it can be inserted into the lock tabs of the
metra connectors.

2. Remove all the small wires from one of your metra harness set.
3. Start stripping and soldering the wires together according to the diagram. Most of them
will be color coded.
a. Pay attention to the black dots, these are splices on the power wires.
b. The parking break is not actually a splice, just connect it one way or the other
depending on if you’re using a micro bypass or not.
c. Insert Wires as needed, look at the lock tab and carefully pry them back out.
d. My backup camera harness came with a splice for ground, I simply reused it.

Step 3 Install:
1. Drill a hole into the front cubby, with your hole saw. Use a file and clean up the edges
and insert the USB bulkhead, some blue locktite on the nut is nice if you have it, but not
totally necessary. (I apologize, I forgot to take pictures of this step) Pull the wires up to meet the
head unit.
2. Install Air vents into Metra Dash kit, but don’t install white clips from the original dash
bezel yet.
3. Install side panels onto your head unit. Every HU is different, so it’ll be guess and check
for screw placement.
4. Plug in wire harness to factory plugs and plug into the head unit. Plug in USB cables
from the bulkhead panel connector.
5. Lightly screw head unit into place with the 4 original screws. Don’t tighten yet.
6. Turn on the car while looking at the AWSC1 box. After the red blinks, hold the volume
up button on the steering wheel until the blinking stops.
7. Turn off the car and key back on. Check to make sure the steering wheel controls work,
carplay/android auto work with the usb connector, radio etc….
8. Check fitament of the metra dash bezel to make sure the radio is centered. Once
satisfied, tighten radio in place, careful not to overtighten and crack plastic.
9. Install white clips from original bezel onto the metra bezel and snap into plce.
10. Install 3 top screws to metra dash bezel.
11. Turn on car and check function of everything again.
12. Once satisfied, install top dash cover and you’re done.
