Thank you for buying a SCORPRO Paddle Shift kit, and we trust you will enjoy the enhancement of your
Pajero driving experience.
Please read these instructions in their entirety before you begin the installation, to ensure you understand
the procedure and are comfortable performing the steps described.
If you have also purchased the MM 4x4 paddle-mate, lockup-mate or auto-mate these
Note
instructions will direct when to begin installation of that kit.
In order to avoid injury to yourself or others from accidental deployment of the air bag,
read and carefully follow all the precautions and procedures described below.
1. an Aisin transmission (transmission code V5AWF, generally diesel models, MY2009 and later)
and
2. an aftermarket torque converter lockup kit
then please perform the following check:
• Ensure the front wheels are straight ahead & the steering wheel level.
Disassembly of the console requires removing the transmission shifter from Park.
Caution Apply the handbrake and ensure the vehicle will not roll; it is recommended to chock the
wheels.
c) Locate & keep safe the black tube on the top of the shifter actuator rod; it may be inside the knob;
d) Remove the loose bottom trim piece from the lever.
3) Remove the cup holders – lift straight up to unclip.
4) Unscrew two screws from console (No 2 Phillips driver).
5) Lift the console carefully, and reach under console to find & disconnect the illumination plug.
Illumination

Some models require the ignition ON to move the transmission from Park.
Turning the ignition ON with the airbag disconnected can trigger an error code that
Caution cannot be cleared by some OBD2 devices.
Observing the Caution on page 2, confirm the transmission is in Neutral before
proceeding.
7) Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and tape the terminal to prevent accidental
connection and air bag(s) deployment.
8) Confirm power is disconnected e.g. test horn, dash lights, interior lights.
After disconnecting the battery cable, wait 60 seconds or more before proceeding with the
following work. In addition, insulate the negative battery terminal with a tape. The
condenser inside the SRS-ECU is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy the air bag
Danger
for a short time even after the battery has been disconnected, so serious injury may result
from unintended air bag deployment if work is done on the SRS system immediately after
the battery cables are disconnected.

10) Prise apart the top & bottom covers, unclip & remove.
11) Release the column height adjuster to make removal easier.
12) Unclip the connector cover on the underside of steering wheel.
13) Through the aperture exposed by the cover, disconnect two plugs:
a) yellow airbag plug – slide down outer shell to release;
b) black horn plug – press locking tab to release.
• The screws retaining the airbag assembly will not come out through the holes in the housing, but
they may catch the airbag assembly. If the air bag assembly won’t come out, try re-seating, and
then freeing the corners in a different sequence.
16) Once the airbag has been removed, locate and keep safe the two Torx retaining screws.
Caution Do not remove the nut yet; only undo the nut one or two turns.
20) Loosen the steering wheel from the splined shaft on the steering column.
• Pull alternately on each side of the wheel to separate the mating splines.
21) Once the steering wheel is loose on the splines, fully remove the nut, and carefully remove the steering
wheel.
If the steering wheel does not come away easily from the steering column there
may still be a cable connected to the clock spring.
Caution
Carefully check for cables connected to the steering wheel before proceeding
any further.
Locating
Spigots
• Access to the connector is limited. One side is fixed to the transmission tunnel; to reconnect, use
finger-tips to engage the tip of the mating part, align, and insert.
• It may be necessary to remove the lower trim panel near the firewall in the driver’s foot well.
25) Install column covers:
a) Ensure white inserts are located in lower cover and rotated as per the following photo;
b) Once upper and lower covers are in place, install screws & tighten.
26) Place the steering wheel over the splined shaft.
• Confirm the front wheels are straight & the steering wheel is level.
27) Install the nut & tighten.
28) Re-connect the black connector for the push-buttons.
29) Seat airbag assembly into place.
30) Reconnect airbag and horn connectors.
31) Insert & tighten Torx screws to retain the airbag.
32) Reconnect battery.
• If there is a problem with operation of the paddles access to the wiring connector can be
obtained by removing the steering column covers as per steps 9) and 10) above;
If the steering wheel requires removal for trouble-shooting the paddles there is a risk
Danger that serious injury may result from unintended air bag deployment.
Resume instructions from step 7) above.
f) Once paddles have been confirmed to operate properly, place the transmission shifter in Neutral to
install the lower console.
• This quirk is not due to any error or omission by the manufacturer of the lockup kit.
• This is a quirk of Mitsubishi’s programming of the Aisin transmission.
Cause:
It appears that this quirk is induced when the factory ECU does not see slip in the torque converter under
certain load conditions where slip is expected.
Symptoms:
When this quirk is in effect, and Sports Mode is in use, the transmission will
1. unexpectedly change down from 2nd to 1st at 1500 rpm, or 3rd to 1st at approximately 30km/h, and
2. not change up from 1st to 2nd until approximately 2800 rpm.
In normal “D” mode the transmission behaves normally, but while accelerating in Sports Mode the
transmission will not select 2nd gear below approximately 30km/h.
• Do not allow the aftermarket system to lock the torque converter until the quirk has been
cleared, and the installation of paddles has been successfully completed.
2. With transmission in D, travelling above 30km/h, accelerate hard up to 50km/h, or higher. Then find
somewhere to safely stop, and try testing for the quirk again.
3. If the quirk remains present, try repeating the process using Sports Mode. Accelerate in 1st gear
until the transmission will accept a manual shift into second gear (approximately 2800 rpm / 30
km/h), then accelerate hard to induce slip in the torque converter. Then find somewhere to safely
stop, and try testing for the quirk again.
If the above procedures do not allow the transmission to change up to 2nd gear while stationary there may be
another fault present. Contact Mitsubishi for further diagnosis.
