2011 Metrobank-MTAP-DepED Math Challenge
Elimination and Final Rounds

The Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI), the Mathematics Teachers

Association of the Philippines (MTAP) and the Department of Education
(DepED) announce the holding of the 2011 Metrobank-MTAP-DepED Math
Challenge from January to April 2011 with the theme “Moving Forward
Through Excellence in Mathematics”.

The overall objective of the competition is to contribute in improving the

quality of mathematics education in the Philippines. Specifically, it aims to:
a. awaken greater interest in mathematics among elementary and high
school students in both private and public schools nayionwide;
b. encourage them to strive for excellence in mathematics;
c. encourage them to master the basic mathematical skills;
d. discover mathematical talents among the pupils and students;
e. develop the values of hardwork, perseverance, honesty, teamwork,
sportsmanship; and
f. provide them with opportunities in leadership and cooperative
undertaking.

Participants to this competition are Grades I to VI pupils in the elementary

level and First to Fourth Year students in the secondary level for the Division
elimination and final rounds. Grade VI and Fourth Year Division champions
will represent the Division in the Regional and National Finals.

Participants to the 2011 Math Challenge, Division Level Elimination on 14

January 2011 are:
Elementary Level

Grade I - 3 per district/3 per private school

Grade II - 3 per district/3 per private school
Grade III - 3 per district/3 per private school
Grade IV - 3 per district/3 per private school
Grade V - 3 per district/3 per private school
Grade VI - 3 per district/3 per private school

Secondary Level

First Year - 3 per secondary school (public/private)

Second Year - 3 per secondary school (public/private)
Third Year - 3 per secondary school (public/private)
Fourth Year - 3 per secondary school (public/private)

The Math Challenge shall be conducted in four (4) stages at the following
designated venues schedule:

Contest questions shall be prepared by MTAP.

There shall be no registration fee. Meals and snacks of the members of the
Working Committees and expenses for materials incurred shall be charged to the
Division MOOE while meals and snacks and travel expenses for the contestants and
coaches shall be charged to the school funds subject to the usual accounting and
auditing rules and regulations.

Attached is the registration form which must be returned, duly accomplished to

Mrs. Emilie P. Aranjuez for Grades I-III participants, Dr. Alma C. Cifra for Grades IV-
VI participants and Mr. Nelson T. Ibana for the secondary participants on or before 10
January 2011.
