TEACHING OBSERVATION REFLECTION 2

Teaching Observation Reflection

Starting out watching the videos I noticed how active the teachers are interacting with

their students. Not only that but testing the students' knowledge and have them work together as

a group.

In one video named Freedom of Religion, a local high school teacher involves her ninth

grade students in a stimulation of a U.S supreme court hearing on a first amendment case. She

had the class start in small groups and has the students use their knowledge from the roles,

opinions, and also includes question strategies to obtain the lesson. Watching it all pan out and

seeing the students work together is a healthy environment for a classroom. I like how the

teacher had them portraying roles to get the full experience on the case. On the other hand

another teacher uses a method of a series of experiments to determine patterns in a mathematics

class. He had the students be able to show connections with patterns using linear equations.

Once more another teaching technique I’m excited to use is the technique that Martha

Duran Contras uses in her second grade class. She is in the middle of teaching using the game

hangman and she picks up a cup filled with popsicle sticks that has the number amount of kids in

her class. On each stick is the name of one of the students so in a sense kinda like popcorn

reading you don’t know who’s gonna get called on. It’s definitely a good technique to let the

students know who's getting picked on to answer the question without having them all answer at

once.

In teaching Foriegn language the teacher uses a method called learning through TPR. He

had the whole entire class stand up and expressed not to speak. While looking at the words on

the paper he tells them they're going to tell a story. He had them repeat the gestures he was using

with his hands. Making the words come together without talking. This technique is good for the

students because it not only builds motivation but shows their comprehension of listening and

understanding.

Responding to writing: Teacher to Student multiple teachers have formal and informal

teacher/student meetings. In the video there was one particular part that stood out to me and how

the teacher was engaged in teaching in detail. As they sit next to one another the teacher reads

over her essay. While reading she would occasionally stop at an error and asked the student

multiple questions pertaining to the use of proper grammar. As she worked one on one with the

student she helped her improve as a writer.

While the last video played out I came to a realization on teaching and using a variety of

different teaching techniques which in the last video which was based on culture and learning. A

suggestion was brought up of bringing in parents in the classroom which brings in unexpected

surprises culturally. It all has developed over the years and looking back at the videos you see

each and every teacher use their own way of teaching and interaction. I look forward to using

their way of teaching in my future classroom.
