Observation in The Classroom 2

Reflection Over Videos

Being in a classroom is obviously something you love, or it is not for you. The

experience I had while observing at Fannindel Elementary school was phenomenal. Last semester I

watched videos of teachers in the classroom and that experience was nothing compared to being in

an actual classroom as an adult instead of remembering what I remember from being a student. The

Kindergarten teacher loves what she does and she is definitely an inspiration to me and how I want

to run my classroom in the future.

In my future classroom I will be sure to use some of the techniques she used to teach the

kids motor skills. For example, in the morning she has them use playdough to roll and make the

letters to their names on a piece of laminated paper. They have fun while doing this but they are

also learning. Another technique used in the classroom is the seating. Instead of sitting in chairs at

desks, each student has a rug to sit on and a little plastic shelf type table that they use as a desk. I

also appreciated the fact all of the different races of students were integrated, there was no

segregated seating.

In this classroom I saw a ton of interaction with the students. The teacher always had kids

at her desk and she made time to help and answer each one of their questions. The teacher never

got aggravated and only made sure the students were fully at their stations during serious learning

time. All of the interaction with the students was very positive. Seeing the students ask questions

until they understood what was being taught, seemed very rewarding. The entire environment was

peaceful but fun and a great place for learning.

This teacher used multiple different learning styles. In the morning times she uses auditory

learning by playing counting and alphabet songs for the students to sing and dance along with. She

also uses visual when doing math and phonics. By showing pictures along side of the problems and

the words. She also practiced a hands-on technique in some different lessons throughout my

observations. For example, during center time, they are learning with the games they get to play

with.

The lessons throughout my observation, were what I believed to be student centered. The

students were very involved and every lesson they have to be interacting with each part. Before

moving on this teacher is always sure to reevaluate what was just talked about and make for a fact

that each student grasps the lesson. She also does a recap before lunch and before loading the

buses. Each student enjoyed the class each time I was in there. The teacher let them talk to her

while teaching and did not make them be still all of the time like some other teachers but they also

respected her, when she asked them to do certain tasks. That is the type of classroom I want to

teach in. This teacher philosophy is obviously realizing that every student learns differently and

she is very patient with that. She also believes that the students should not only hear what she is

teaching but she should feel confident that they understand what they are hearing. This classroom

was organized in a way that I will definitely take tips and tricks to turn mine into one like it in the

future.
