Annexure I

The following modifications needs to be carried out in the thesis.

 There are some language errors in the thesis. The following are only some sample. Please
check for similar errors.

o Page 100 – “So the classifier ……..”

o Page 131 – “The main contribution from these…….”

o Page 182 – “In case of LD prediction, the vague……”

 Chapter 2

o Page 23 – Studies have found that ---- Add reference

o Page 23 – No reference for listing of LD symptoms

o Page 33 – How is the questionnaire formulated? Any source – rationale

o Page 35 - What is the rationale behind reducing 40 general characteristics to 16?

Are LD symptoms Region specific? What will happen if you increase the number
of characteristics used? Will this affect LD detection in our system? Please
discuss these issues.

o Page 37 – Remedial solutions (Section 2.5.2) – Add Reference

 Chapter 3

o Page 49 – Figure 3.2 – add legend for x & y axis

o Page 52 – Reference for minimax normalization missing

o Page 53- Table 3.2 & Table 3.3 can be merged.

 Chapter 4

o General

The method of evaluation – especially what is the training data set and what is the
test data set is not clear? Explain clearly the interrelationships between symptoms
of LD, their relative importance and significance in the classification. The reason
for the poor performance of some algorithms against others – is this due to the
general nature of the algorithms or is this due to the nature of data?
 Chapter 5

o Page 116 – Explain clearly how the number of attributes get reduced from 16 to 7?

o General

What is the rationale behind imputing missing values? Explain how the nature of your
data set and the analysis of performance in Chapter 4 made you choose the methods
for improving performance described in this chapter. Why were improvement
methods applied only to NN and J48 and not to the other classifications?

 Chapter 6

o Page 143 – How does the use of linguistic variables reduce complexity?

 Chapter 8

o What are your contributions in the directions of developing new algorithms, use of
existing algorithms and models for LD data and in general in LD detection.

o A major part of the thesis uses existing algorithms for LD detection – therefore
analysis and justification of results is very important.

In order to publish the thesis, additional parameters need to be used and in addition a
section on clear analysis of the results need to be added.
