Observation Hours

Once finding out that I was going to observe in a classroom right next to a teacher I was

super excited. Many things were going through my mind and was wondering what it was like to

be in the classroom again or would the experience scare me away or push my passion deeper for

education. I was able to get the opportunity to watch hours of what goes on in an elementary

classroom.

While I was watching the videos I was able to come across so many amazing lessons that

were given by great teachers. One of the teachers that i was able to watch and observe was Ms.

Evens. She is a 1st grade teacher at Richard E. Elementary School and has been teaching for 9

years. While she was telling the students to go into stations she wanted to have a small group

with her at her teacher table. While she was there she wanted the students to get their brain going

by reading a small story or going through their vocabulary words. Each student has a different set

of words just because each student goes at their own pace but over all their vocabulary words are

similar in a way. Soon she went on to reading the small story with her students and was able to

teach them new words and their meaning. Her way of teaching was so amazing the way she was

able to have her students engaged in each lesson she taught was great.

I was also able to watch and observe Ms Cole And her 4th grade class from Frontier

Elementary school. When first observing the class I noticed the students were well behaved and

that Ms. Cole was doing great at giving instructions. While teaching her whole class students

were raising their hands left and right being engaged in the lesson that she was giving them. Ms.

Cole was going great examples about a persuasive essay and making sure they are able to write

in the right way. She's making sure the students have all their facts ready for the topic that they

are going to have to follow. While Ms. Cole is giving her lesson she had a powerpoint

presentation for more examples and handed out sample articles.

While watching all these great videos I was able to learn that it is very important to have

your students engaged in each lesson you teach. Not only that but alway make a lesson to where

all students understand what you are trying to teach because we always have to remember every

child learns in different ways. There were many positive interactions between the student and

the teacher for example when Ms. Cole would be asking questions students would raise their

hands quietly and wait for her to pick on them to answer the question that was given. While

observing the teachers I noticed that some like to have the student at centers doing certain things

and some like to teach the class as a whole both methods work great but we always have to

remember that each student is different. Some teachers showed powerpoints and others did hands

on lessons with the students.

While observing all these amazing teachers i was able to learn new teaching techniques

and learn to always grab the students attention. I had a great experience watching these amazing

videos and would say that being a teacher will be the best thing of my life and I can't wait to

shape lives.
