My main goal as a teacher is to make sure my students clearly understand what is

expected from them every day in my class. I will do this by having learning targets and goals on

a board or wall for every day or unit, making sure I use language so there is no confusion or

miscommunication. To do this, I will go through the learning targets and goals before starting a

new lesson and encourage students to ask questions or ask for clarification. Another strategy I

would use is having students discuss the learning targets and goals with a partner to talk together

about what they do not understand or need some help understanding. This will make learning

easier for my students because they know what I want them to learn.

A goal I have for my students is that they learn how to problem-solve. I will do this by

having projects that are not always straightforward in their solutions. I will make sure my

students know they do not have to do things a certain way or follow one specific procedure. This

will require students to work through different possibilities and develop ideas that may differ

from their classmates' ideas.

Along with this goal, I want my students to use creativity to find their answers. To do

this, I want my students not to be worried about making mistakes or have to try something again

or do something different. I will do this by providing support for them to be creative and try

something new. I will also show my students that it is okay to try new things by doing it myself.

Another part of this will be the use of technology. Students can use technology to find and

expand their ideas. There are also websites that have activities, games, and reading assistance to

help students learn in different content areas.

To assess my students' learning, I will use different formative assessment methods such

as discussions, self-assessments, and short writes or exit slips. This will allow for lower-stakes

assessments for my students while also giving me a clear understanding of how well my students
grasp concepts. I also plan to use summative assessments, but less often than formative

assessments. This will be only for at the end of units or big projects. I will help them understand

my assessments by giving back success feedback as well as next-step feedback.

The goal I have for my classroom's overall environment is that my students feel

welcomed and free to explore how to learn. I do not want any of my students to feel

uncomfortable or worried about making mistakes. Instead, I hope they come to my class each

day ready to try something new and gain new knowledge. This will partially depend on my

attitude towards students and their ideas.

There also needs to be an agreement of respect between my students. This includes using

kind words and actions. We will have discussions about respect and empathy to start the school

year and as needed throughout our time together. These discussions will include topics such as

feelings, thoughts, and differences.
